Description The City of Anaheim Public Library seeks several enthusiastic and dynamic Part Time Library Pages to provide accurate and thorough service in a team-oriented library system. The Part Time Library Page is an entry-level support position assigned to various sections of the Library (i.e. circulation or technical services/collection support)
Under direct supervision, the Part Time Library Page performs a variety of manual and clerical tasks related to library materials processing, sorting, shelving, and retrieving; unpacks and checks in library material; participates in the preparation and organization of shipments and deliveries; provides meeting room support such as positioning chairs and tables for room set-up and take-down; and performs related work as required. Prior library experience is highly desired. This is a part time position, typically assigned 15-20 hours per week with no minimum number of hours guaranteed.

There are eleven Library outlets serving the City of Anaheim and surrounding communities. This includes a Central Library, six branch libraries, a mobile library, a mobile STEAM van, the self-service branch at ARTIC Transportation Center, and the Anaheim Heritage Center which houses our local history collections.

Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Performs sorting and shelving of library materials such as books, audio-visual media, newspapers, magazines, and other material; retrieves library materials from shelves and book trucks; sorts and prepares library materials for shelving; arranges and maintains a variety of library material in order on shelves, including shifting of the materials to make room for more books and for esthetics.
Searches for, sorts, and prepares library materials for daily delivery. Unpacks library shipments of materials and supplies; verifies contents against a packing list. Checks in library materials.
Processes and prepares new library materials for circulation and public use, including newspapers, magazines and paperbacks. Organizes and prepares outgoing delivery and patron request items. Uses computer equipment to retrieve item records and print barcodes and call number labels.
Searches for and retrieves library materials for staff and patron use (e.g. requests, in-transit, claim returns, closed stacks). Shelf reads to ensure that library materials are shelved correctly; maintains newspaper and magazine archives
Answers the delivery intercom and phone; signs for library deliveries. Packs and empties book bins; unloads book drops. Cleans, repairs, and mends library materials; cleans library shelves and equipment.
Clears library tables and bookshelves of unused or mis-shelved books and other library materials. Prepares conference rooms for meetings, library programs, and community gatherings; moves and arranges furniture (e.g. tables, chairs, podium) into specific configurations requested for the meeting; sets up coffee service and other refreshments
Performs a variety of clerical and office support tasks such as assembling and breaking down boxes, raising and taking down flags, unlocking and locking of the public doors, shredding of library materials, and storage and retrieval of library supplies. Prepares outgoing mail and package shipments; picks up and delivers library mail and materials to library staff. Provides directional assistance to patrons upon request; may help patrons find the shelf location of library materials and appropriate services desks.
Sorts and tallies library card applications. Accepts and sorts donated materials from the public. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications Candidates must possess any combination of experience and knowledge to demonstrate basic library operating principles. Prior library experience is highly desired. Demonstrate knowledge of basic library operating principles, including confidentiality of customer information; standard library practices and procedures; basic record keeping principles and procedures; basic principles of arithmetic; modern office practices, methods and computer equipment; and English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
Demonstrate the ability to maintain accurate logs, records, and basic written reports of work performed; understand and follow department policies and procedures related to assigned duties, and oral and written instructions; accurately shelve and file materials using library alpha-numeric systems; operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized library services software applications programs; make sound decisions within established policy and procedural guidelines; use English effectively to communicate in person and over the telephone; use tact, initiative, prudence, and judgment within narrow policy, procedural, and legal guidelines; and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Environmental Conditions: Employees primarily work in an office/library environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Physical Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office and library setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
This classification primarily works indoors and requires frequent standing and walking between work areas. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve materials and data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to retrieve and shelve materials.
Incumbents must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items, storage containers, and shelving units weighing an average of 20 pounds, and up to 50 pounds of weight, by lifting and carrying, and up to 250 pounds of weight by pushing and pulling, with the aid of lifting/moving equipment. Supplemental Information This is a part time position, typically assigned 15-20 hours per week with no minimum number of hours guaranteed. Scheduled hours will include Saturdays and/or Sundays and evening shifts.
