About This Position

Under general supervision, performs technical, public service and administrative duties requiring operational level skills and a basic knowledge of library, practices, and procedures. Work may include both user services and technical services. User services work is directly with physicians, nurses, other clinicians, employees, patients and their families. Technical services include acquiring and preparing material for use by library customers, maintenance of library INet links, databases and electronic resources and preparation of library reports.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Customer Service:

  • Handles patron requests and phone calls at the circulation desk.
  • Provides basic services and technology support for patrons and refers more complex requests to the librarian.
  • Assists patrons in finding library materials, including online database and journal subscriptions services.
  • Assists patrons with copy, fax, laminating, and other library services.
  • Processes quiet study room requests and monitors use of the rooms.
  • Handles payments for library fines, fees, and services such as copying and book sale purchases.

Circulation:

  • Circulates library materials for patrons using the library's Integrated Library System (ILS) software.
  • Registers patrons for new library cards and maintains patron records.
  • Sends overdue notices and bills.
  • Shelves library materials.

Interlibrary Loans:

  • Manages incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan requests, along with assisting patrons in making requests through the link on the library website.
  • Obtains materials for customers from the Medical Libraries' collection (both print and electronic), scans documents to create PDFs for patrons. Maintains records for materials obtained outside of CCHS, reconciles monthly charges for materials. Produces borrowing reports as requested by Library Manager.

Cataloging:

  • Catalogs new library materials according to the Bibliographic Standards for the NNLM.
  • Creates displays of library materials to encourage patron browsing.
  • Updates the library website as directed.

Collection Development:

  • Recommends books for purchase based on patron requests and an awareness of current popular titles.
  • Processes new items for the library's collection based on the Managers approvals, including, placing orders in workday, receiving, and cataloging newly acquired materials.
  • Assists with inventory, weeding, and other collection management tasks.

General Library Tasks:

  • Performs general library tasks such as dusting, cleaning computer stations, and other cleaning.
  • Performs shelf reading to keep library materials organized.
  • Organizes supplies, storage areas, and library equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains statistical reports.
  • Completes clerical work including filing, processing invoices and submitting requisitions in Workday.
  • Provides a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.
  • Participates in library events, such as Discovery Day, orientation, and the HFGCC tabling events.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Provides coverage at other library locations in the absence of the librarian.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent and 2 years progressively responsible professional office experience; associate's degree or coursework in Library Science preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is required.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Library Systems (ILS) or medical databases (like PubMed/MEDLINE) is a plus.
Hourly Pay Range: $19.84 - $29.76This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
