What Does a Library Circulation Assistant Do?
A library circulation assistant provides basic support to the circulation clerk, other library staff, and patrons. Your daily responsibilities involve maintaining circulation and the circulation desk, returning books and reference materials to the shelves, shelf maintenance as necessary, and clerical functions like data entry. Additional duties include checking books, magazines, and other library materials in and out, inputting data, and assisting patrons in person and over the phone. You are responsible for referring in-depth research requests to librarians.

The Library Services Assistant manages the Carroll University Library during night and weekend hours of operation. A typical week during the regular academic year may include one or two weekday nights from between 4pm and 6pm to 11pm with additional hours on Saturday and/or Sunday.
Responsibilities:
- Assist library users in finding information and materials using the library catalog, databases, and other online resources via in-person, online chat, email, and phone.
- Supervise student workers at the Circulation Desk, Information Commons Desk, and Library Classroom during assigned shift.
- Close or open the library, depending on shift.
- Assist library users with computers and software.
- Enforce the library's policies.
- Other clerical and library duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
- Associate's degree required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Two to four years in customer service and/or library experience.
Technology Skills:
- Competent and comfortable in use of computers and software such as Microsoft Office and/or Google Drive.
- Experience with research assistance preferred.
Human Relations Skills:
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently.
- Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, ability, socio-economic background, or job type.
Other Requirements:
- Shift changes and/or weekend work may be required by your supervisor based on departmental and University needs.
- Candidates must be willing and able to support and advance the University mission.
