Job Description

Title: External Communications Specialist

Reports to: Communications & Internal Engagement Manager

FLSA: Exempt

Position Summary: The External Communications Specialist implements the company's general audience external communications strategy, as well as its community engagement focus. Oversees the development of agency print and digital collateral for external use, including in marketing, patient/family education, grief support, and community relations. Manages the company's community education series, public website, company blog, and emerging platforms. Develops and manages strategy, content and engagement for company social media platforms, Google reviews, website and other peripheral sites.

Functions:

Content development & distribution of all print and digital collateral for general KCH audience; general audience external communications; general agency & store advertising

Curate and post content to external KCH website blog, recruiting subject matter experts from within the agency and its partners; promote blog sign up/engagement

Design and develop print & digital content for other KCH departments/across-agency

Manage library of agency brochures and other agency print collateral, including rack cards, flyers, fact sheets, pamphlets, stationery, postcards, envelopes

Create annual agency materials, including Annual Planner and Wall Calendar

Coordinate with POCs and team leads to educate about available print & digital resources and research new and emerging needs.

Develop and maintain robust library of grief support print and digital materials, including brochures, new flyers, powerpoint presentations, educational materials, Journeys Newsletter

Creation & distribution of short-form video content across external platforms

Develop and manage robust cross-channel social media strategy, content and engagement

Manage and respond to Google reviews and other external-facing user content

Support Manager in ongoing website content updates; create monthly company email tagline content

Maintain up-to-date events calendar on public website, Intranet and Board Portal

Manage the continued development of the Community Education Series, including speaker recruitment & topic development; with support of Associate Director & Director

Assist volunteer services, fundraising, communications and HR teams with branded items selection & ordering

Maintain agency photo library & source stock images and video as-needed

Manage video editing and uploading, including for Community Education Series, to our public website, and maintain Vimeo video library.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in a mid-level communications or marketing role

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism,marketing,or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Healthcare/hospice industry experience strongly preferred

  • Proficient project management experience and demonstration of successful tactics

  • Superior time management and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines, achieve established goals, and manage competing priorities

  • Outstanding writing and editing skills and production of flawless written content across print and digital platforms; ability to develop content targeted for a variety of audiences

  • An analytical mind and ability to think critically

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills

  • Advanced understanding of brand management principles and knowledge of design elements with ability in Adobe Suite software

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Powerpointand capable of creating visually compelling presentations and other deliverables using Canva or similar; knowledgeable in Adobe inDesign

  • Proficient in use of Google suite for content creation and collaboration, including Drive, Meet, Sheets, Forms, and Photos

  • Experience with email marketing softwareincluding MailChimp, including audience analytics and engagement

  • Experienced in use of Wordpress for web content updates and basic site maintenance

  • Proven knowledge of communications and marketing ethics and best practices
