SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under supervision, assists teaching staff in a variety of instructional activities and in the supervision of students at school and on field trips. Incumbent performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Paraeducator Aide I class differs from the Paraeducator Assistant class in that the latter is regularly required to perform academic instructional assistance for a significant portion of time. Although positions within the Paraeducator Aide classification may perform some of the less responsible academic instructional assistance, the primary emphasis of this class is clerical support and student behavior control.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists teaching staff in a variety of classroom and school related activities; types tests, correspondence, and routine narrative and statistical reports; corrects student papers and homework; distributes and collects classroom materials and prepares classroom and audio-visual equipment for use; orders supplies and equipment; maintains student and attendance records; maintains classroom bulletin boards; counts school lunch money; supervises students taking tests; observes progress and problem areas of students for referral to the teacher; maintains safety and discipline by supervising and/or assisting in the supervision of students on playgrounds, in lunchrooms, school halls, library, study halls, and with the loading and unloading of buses at school and on field trips; verifies that students out of class have hall passes; enforces school rules and regulations; insures that students leaving campus are authorized to do so, and that students on campus are students of the school; operates common office machines; performs clerical duties as assigned.

When assigned to enrichment activities, this position does not engage in instructional duties and is not required to meet Paraprofessional or highly qualified requirements.
Develops rapport with students and provides sound leadership; responsible for being an example of good sportsmanship; applies discipline in a fair and positive manner and according to prescribed procedures; assists after school programming staff in a variety of areas throughout the school; collects classroom materials and prepares classroom and audio-visual equipment for use; maintains student and attendance records; supervises students in various activities and settings; maintains safety and discipline by supervising and/or assisting in the supervision of students on playgrounds, in lunchrooms, school halls, library, study halls, and with the loading and unloading of buses at school and on field trips; verifies that all students are accounted for; enforces school rules and regulations; insures that students leaving campus are authorized to do so; operates common office machines; and performs clerical duties as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/Experience: Any experience equivalent to education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
  1. A high school diploma is desirable;
    AND
  2. A minimum of six (6) months of experience working with school age youth is desirable when assigned to enrichment aide duties.

Knowledge of: Educational principles and techniques; student behavior and characteristics; basic discipline and behavior modification techniques; correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; basic mathematics; current office methods and procedures including filing and records management; common office equipment and its usage.
Skill at: Securing and maintaining the confidence and cooperation of students; dealing tactfully with students, parents and school personnel; evaluating situations accurately and taking effective action; teaching good sportsmanship; typing with speed and accuracy; spelling correctly; reading, writing and speaking English at a level required for successful job performance; preparing and maintaining accurate and complete records, files and summaries; organizing and distributing instructional materials; making mathematical computations; operating various office equipment; operating and maintaining audio-visual equipment; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; providing leadership and developing rapport with students when assigned to enrichment aide duties.

This position is for the 2026/27 school year with an anticipated start date after August 1,2026.
This position is a twenty(20) hour per week, One Year Only position ending June 2027. This position is grant-funded grant and is contingent upon continued funding. The hiring administrator may retain incumbent for the duration of the grant without re-advertising.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
