What is a level 2 support engineer?

Level 2 Support Engineers are IT professionals who handle more complex technical issues that cannot be resolved by Level 1 support staff. They possess deeper technical expertise and are responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving advanced problems with software, hardware, or network systems. They may also escalate issues to Level 3 support if necessary and often work closely with both end-users and other IT teams to ensure timely resolution. Their role is essential in maintaining system uptime and user satisfaction within an organization.

What are some common challenges faced by level 2 support engineers, and how can they be effectively managed?

Level 2 Support Engineers often encounter complex technical issues that require deeper analysis and troubleshooting beyond standard fixes. Managing multiple tickets with varying priorities and collaborating with both customers and higher-level engineers can be challenging. Effective time management, clear communication, and continuous learning are essential for success in this role. Proactively documenting solutions and sharing knowledge within the team can also help streamline future support cases and improve overall efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a level 2 support engineer?

To thrive as a Level 2 Support Engineer, you need strong troubleshooting abilities, in-depth knowledge of operating systems and networking, and typically a relevant degree or technical certification (such as CompTIA or Microsoft certifications). Familiarity with ticketing systems (like ServiceNow or Jira), remote desktop tools, and diagnostic utilities is essential. Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving skills help you effectively assist users and collaborate with team members. These skills ensure timely and accurate resolution of complex technical issues, leading to improved user satisfaction and system reliability.

Job description

About Us: Carefeed is the platform senior living and long-term care providers use to bring order, clarity, and calm to their day. By replacing paper, calls, and disconnected tools with an all-in-one platform, Carefeed digitizes and automates the work that takes teams away from residents and families.

Carefeed works alongside existing EHR and HR systems and supports the way providers already operate. It reduces strain, keeps communities organized, and gives staff the time and confidence to focus on what matters most. Providers choose Carefeed because it is simple to learn, powerful in practice, and built for the realities of multi-community care.
ย
Trusted by thousands of communities across the US and Canada, Carefeed helps every organization deliver a better experience for residents, families, and the teams who care for them.

About the Opportunity:ย  Carefeed is seeking a Support Engineer to join our growing team and serve as a bridge between our engineering, product and client experience teams. As a Support Engineer, you'll investigate and fix client issues, design and implement changes to avoid future problems, and advocate for Carefeed's clients to the rest of the company.ย

In this role, you'll split your time between fixing client issues and building tools to help prevent issues in the future. This role sits in our Integrations engineering team, where you'll use your experience supporting our integrations to help us make future implementations more resilient.ย

This role is well-suited for recent college or coding bootcamp graduates who are eager to start a career in software development. Our goal is to help team members in this role build the skills and experience to grow into future engineering positions at Carefeed.ย

Responsibilities:ย

  • Solve client issues. Your primary day-to-day responsibility will be to act as escalation support for Carefeed's client experience team. Investigate and fix client issues as they arise.ย
  • Design and implement tools and fixes. Build tools to help you and the rest of the Carefeed team detect client issues or prevent them before they arise.ย
  • Assist in onboarding and offboarding clients. Assist in the technical setup of new clients as needed. As with client issues, you'll be encouraged to develop tooling to automate this.ย
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with clients and Carefeed team members to understand requirements, resolve issues, and deliver high-quality outcomes.ย
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, sharing insights and feedback to strengthen processes, systems, and team collaboration.ย ย

Skills:ย

  • Excellent communication skills. You must be able to convey complex technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences.ย
  • Strong debugging skills, particularly relating to 3rd-party integrations. You will regularly need to collate information from SQL databases, remote server logs and client reports in order to reproduce and fix issues.ย
  • Experience programming web applications. Carefeed works primarily in PHP and Typescript. Experience in these languages is a plus but not required.ย
  • Experience with Unix-based systems (MacOS or Linux) and Internet protocols like DNS and SMTP is a plus.ย

Qualifications:ย

  • 2+ years in a technical support, client success or software development roleย
  • Experience in a startup environment or healthcare industry is a plus.ย
  • Proven track record of providing excellent client service and handling challenging client situations with professionalism.ย
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.ย
  • Experience working in SaaS or enterprise software environments.ย

Work Location: Chicago, ILย

FLSA Status: Full-time, Exemptย

What You'll Love:ย ย

  • Join a fast-growing startup making a real impact in the lives of senior care providers and their communitiesย
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance to support your health and well-beingย
  • 401(k) plan to help you plan for the futureย
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and company-paid holidays to support work-life balanceย
  • A culture that values growth and development, with opportunities to grow your career as we scaleย
