Job description

JOB TITLE: Risk Manager

REPORTS TO: CEO/Administrator

JOB SUMMARY: The Risk Manager works with all hospital departments, employees, medical staff, patients, Board of Trustees, outside governmental agencies, and the public. The Risk Manager administers the internal RM plan, directs the functions and activities of the RM committee, investigates all incidents or assigns appropriate staff to complete investigations, and maintains mandatory logs, reports, and summaries. The RM functions with other members of the hospital community to protect the financial assets of the hospital, to reduce the frequency of potentially compensable events, and to reduce the severity and impact of the losses if an event does occur.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Develop departmental policies and procedures

  • Develop a budget and work to operate within that budget

  • Prepare and maintain departmental records and reports

  • Responsible to assist with risk identification and prevention or reduction of loss, including risk assessments

  • Involved with insurance and claims management

  • Works in conjunction with department heads to review non-legal contracts for liability issues. This may include warranties, service agreements and contract liability agreements between the hospital and independent contractors

  • Monitor and investigate medical-legal concerns. Work with legal defense as appropriate

  • Responsible to provide employees, executives, medical staff, and students with annual education regarding the RM program

  • Assist with the 1management of departmental recalls

  • Review new products and services as needed to assess for potential associated risks

  • Report medical device related incidents to the proper authorities in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations, working in conjunction with the safety officer

  • Work with administration and department heads to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations

  • Interface within the scope of RM with safety management, emergency preparedness, quality improvement, utilization review, employee health, infection control, pharmacy and therapeutics, medical and nursing staff and others as appropriate

  • Coordinate and chair risk management committees

  • Assist in ensuring survey readiness and compliance

  • Other various duties and tasks as assigned by the CEO

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:


  • State of Kansas Registered Nurse license

  • Possess a broad knowledge of hospital operations

  • Clinical or administrative background is preferred
