Position Summary:

A prominent real estate investment and development firm is seeking a Legal Practice Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of its New York-based Legal Department. This role combines strategic project management with hands-on support and is responsible for managing legal operations related to acquisitions, financing, development, dispositions, and corporate matters. The Legal Practice Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional departments, oversee legal claim management, and drive corporate legal initiatives that enhance departmental efficiency and compliance.


Key Responsibilities:Strategic & Operational Leadership
  • Lead legal department projects to improve operational workflows and ensure alignment with company objectives.

  • Oversee preparation, organization, and compliance of corporate legal documentation.

  • Collaborate with teams across Development, Residential, Commercial, and Accounting on legal matters.

Legal Claims & Risk Management
  • Manage investigations and resolutions of legal and insurance claims.

  • Track and analyze claim trends to mitigate risk across the portfolio.

  • Coordinate with external counsel, insurance consultants, and internal stakeholders.

Administrative & Clerical Oversight
  • Manage department billing and invoice coding, including budgeting and accrual processes.

  • Schedule meetings, manage calendars, and coordinate document execution (DocuSign and originals).

  • Maintain legal records, organize files, draft correspondence, and handle communications.

Transactional & Due Diligence Support
  • Support due diligence and execution for real estate and corporate transactions.

  • Ensure timely and accurate handling of filings, agreements, and compliance documentation.

Technology & Innovation
  • Partner with IT to implement legal tech tools and knowledge management solutions.


Qualifications:Experience:
  • 7-10 years of experience in legal operations, ideally a mix of law firm and in-house experience, with a focus on real estate or property management law.

  • Proven track record managing legal claims and supporting transactional matters.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Skills:
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe).

  • Experience handling legal billing and administrative tasks in a fast-paced environment.
