Job description

The Willis Law Firm, a boutique firm and nationally recognized leader in DUI and drug defense, is looking for a highly motivated Legal Assistant/Paralegal to join our team! This position is 100% in the office. You will manage a criminal case calendar and will provide legal assistance/paralegal support to the attorneys at our firm. You’ll assist with the preparation and/or filing of legal documents, handling office correspondence, including answering phone calls and emails, corresponding with courts, reminding the team of upcoming deadlines, and other administrative roles as needed. We use MyCase case management software, and experience with MyCase will help dramatically with transitioning into this job.

Compensation:

$40,000 - $50,000 yearly


Responsibilities:
  • Undertake other duties as needed to ensure the firm operates efficiently
  • Oversee client case files with tasks such as preparing and organizing client files, adding upcoming hearings to the calendar, saving all relevant documents to the client's case file, and client correspondence regarding court dates and other related matters
  • Oversee criminal calendars and related tasks such as preparing conflict letters and tables for team calendar meetings, keeping up with the calendar for the upcoming weeks, filing conflict letters, and corresponding with courts and/or judicial staff to assist with resetting hearings
  • Oversee office correspondence and administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, communicating with clients and court staff, responding to emails, and reminding the team of upcoming deadlines
  • Keeping up with client billing and contacting clients about outstanding invoices
  • E-filing and/or mailing court documents to courts, the prosecuting attorney's office, and other parties as needed
  • Undertake other duties as needed to ensure the firm operates efficiently
  • Drafting a variety of legal documents using our templates for pleadings, motions, affidavits, etc., and proofreading documents when necessary

Qualifications:
  • Able to meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Previous experience (minimum 1-2 years) in a law firm as a legal assistant and/or paralegal is absolutely necessary. We will train the right person to use our computer-based model that works!
  • Candidates should have strong organizational and communication skills to effectively and efficiently interact with all levels of court personnel and clients
  • You can self-manage and work well alone, but also be part of a team. We are all dependent upon one another's success.
  • Technology and the use of computers are one of your strong suits
  • Candidates must have worked with legal software (preferably MyCase), case management, and docketing programs
  • High school diploma or its equivalent is required
