RESPONSIBILITIES OF A LIFEGUARD:
  • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area; including all levels of the water and surrounding areas
  • Ensure safety of all members and participants in and around the pool
  • Learn valuable lifesaving skills in a leadership role

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A LIFEGUARD:
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods in a wide range of weather conditions.
  • Communicate with others immediately when responding to an incident or an emergency.
  • Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, and make quick decisions under stress.
  • Have adequate memory skills to be able to retain and apply lifeguard training knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information with members, peers, and supervisors.
  • Must be observant, safety conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
