Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity with the Finance Shared Service Accounting team. We are looking for a Senior Lease Accountant to support Finance Shared Services Asset Management. This position will play an active role in the month-end close and financial reporting process related to leased assets under applicable accounting standards (ASC 842). The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical accounting skills with a strong desire to learn. The ability to prioritize, efficiently plan work activities, and be detail and results-oriented is critical to the position.

To be considered for this position, qualified candidates must reside in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN metro area to work a hybrid work structure (3+ days per week) in the corporate office located in Inver Grove Heights, MN. 

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and account for leases in compliance with ASC 842 (US GAAP).
  • Review lease contracts and abstracts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Determine lease classification, discount rates, and lease terms.
  • Record right-of-use (ROU) assets, lease liabilities, amortization, and interest expense.
  • Process lease modifications, renewals, terminations, and impairments.
  • Ensure that financial reports are completed on time, in accordance with GAAP principles, and that they accurately reflect financial position.
  • Reconcile more complex accounts and check the accuracy of journal entries to ensure that the general ledger is accurate and complete.
  • Check and analyze financial information and prepare more complex financial reports and Accounting statements to provide senior management with accurate and timely. information for making financial decisions.
  • Provide technical Accounting advice within area of expertise to functional or operational areas managers to help them develop revenue and expense budgets, understand financial reports, and manage their financial responsibilities.
  • Coach, advise, and/or train less-experienced accountants and serve as a point of escalation for more complex accounting issues.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Business, Business Administration, or related field 
  • 4+ years of experience in Finance and/or Accounting
Additional Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 842
  • Knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of modern accounting and office methods and procedures
  • Must possess a solid foundation in accounting fundamentals
  • CPA certification or CPA exam eligible
  • Experience with Finance and Lease accounting ERP systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with others to obtain, share, verify and validate information
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite
