Job description

Nursing Professional Development Specialist     

*The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Specialist is a registered nurse who serves as a learning facilitator, change agent, and role development partner. This role supports nursing practice and patient outcomes through evidence-based education, professional development, and collaboration with clinical teams and leadership. This NPD Specialist will primarily support the Critical Care service line.  *


Position Summary
The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Specialist is a registered nurse who serves as a learning facilitator, change agent, and role development partner. This role supports nursing practice and patient outcomes through evidence-based education, professional development, and collaboration with clinical teams and leadership. 

 

Responsibilities
•    Assesses learning needs using data, performance trends, and staff feedback
•    Designs and delivers education aligned with clinical priorities, standards, and regulatory requirements
•    Facilitates learning through classroom, simulation, bedside, and digital formats
•    Supports staff onboarding, orientation, and role transition
•    Coaches and mentors staff to foster professional growth and clinical excellence
•    Evaluates the effectiveness of educational activities
•    Collaborates with leaders and interdisciplinary teams to support change, safety, and quality initiatives
•    Demonstrates accountability for maintaining professional competency and advancing NPD practice
•    Promotes a culture of inquiry, innovation, and lifelong learning
•    Serves in specialized focus areas such as simulation, ambulatory care, clinical education, interdisciplinary certifications, and/or nurse planner while remaining flexible to support the broader NPD team as needed
•    Completes mandatory training requirements 
•    Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
•    Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
•    Performs other related duties as assigned
•    Competent to meet age-specific needs of the unit assigned

 

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
•    State of Idaho Registered Nurse OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the “multistate privilege to practice” compact with Idaho prior to start date
•    Graduate degree in nursing or related field preferred
•    BSN required
•    Minimum 3 years direct patient care experience preferred
•    Previous experience in designing, developing, conducting and evaluating training programs for adult learners preferred
•    Nursing Professional Development certification (NPD-BC) preferred
•    BLS required

 

Working Conditions
•    Must be able to lift or move up to 35 lbs
•    Must be able to maintain a standing position
•    Typical equipment used in a clinical job
•    Must be able to stoop, crouch, or bend
•    Must be able to push, pull, or transport heavy equipment
•    Must be able to assist in patient transfer
•    Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height
