Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing and recruiting firm that is currently looking for degreed and experienced Training Developers to fill contract positions in Birmingham, AL. The positions are hybrid with 4 days in office and 1 day remote. Local candidates are highly preferred. Relocation assistance is not available. In addition to an updated resume, a work portfolio is required.

WORK LOCATION & SCHEDULE
  • This position will fill multiple positions in the Birmingham, AL area.
  • The team currently has a hybrid work schedule requiring the individual(s) to be in the office four days a week.

Position Summary
A Training Developer 2, Instructional Design, is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering training programs and materials that support employee learning and performance on specific topics or skills. This role supports both instructor-led and eLearning solutions, independently managing course development projects and producing high-quality instructional content using approved tools and templates. The position focuses on analyzing training needs, designing curriculum, and developing effective, learner-centered solutions that align with business objectives, with a strong emphasis on eLearning development.
Position Qualifications
Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Communications, or related field preferred, or equivalent academic, internship, or practicum experience in instructional design or multimedia
  • Instructional Design Experience:
    • Requires 5โ€“10 years of experience in instructional design and/or curriculum development, with a proven track record of designing and delivering effective, high-quality training content.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Demonstrates the ability to effectively engage with subject matter experts and stakeholders, translating technical, soft skill, or industry-specific content into clear, accurate, and instructionally sound training materials, supported by strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technology Proficiency:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Advanced PowerPoint and Word), voice-over narration tools, Adobe Acrobat Pro, SharePoint, and Learning Management Systems, with required experience using eLearning authoring tools to develop digital learning solutions, with Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise) preferred.
Responsibilities Include
  • Collaborates with L&D consultants, stakeholders, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify training needs, define objectives, and understand target audience requirements.
  • Participates and/or leads meetings to gather content, clarify expectations, and collect stakeholder input, ensuring feedback is incorporated throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Provides regular communication to leadership and stakeholders on project progress, risks, and key updates, maintaining accurate status tracking within project management tools.
  • Designs and develops comprehensive training curricula and instructional materials, including instructor-led presentations, participant and instructor guides, job aids, reference materials, and knowledge checks/assessments.
  • Develops eLearning modules using approved authoring tools, applying instructional design principles and adult learning best practices to create engaging, effective, and learner-centered digital experiences.
  • Converts source materials into professional, polished deliverables using approved templates and standardized formats while recommending appropriate instructional strategies based on project needs.
  • Facilitates content review sessions and works closely with stakeholders to validate materials, ensuring accuracy and alignment with learning objectives.
  • Conducts quality assurance testing and iterative revisions across learning products, including validating eLearning functionality within the LMS staging environment.
  • Uploads and manages course content in the LMS, ensuring accurate functionality and overall learner experience while providing feedback to peers and stakeholders as part of the QA/QC process.
  • Supports ongoing content updates, revisions, and maintenance activities, ensuring accuracy, version control, and compliance with established guidelines.
  • Formats and organizes materials for usability and accessibility across delivery methods.
  • Provides multimedia development support, including recording, editing, and integrating voice-over narration into learning products to enhance digital learning experiences, and demonstrates experience using eLearning authoring tools for content development, with Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise) preferred.
  • Regularly uploads and maintains training content within the content management library for use by internal teams, customers, and instructors, ensuring all materials are accurate, complete, properly version-controlled, and aligned with established standards.
