Job Summary
Manager Customer Operations manages and provides leadership and engineering resources for basic to complex construction, materials, tools, and equipment associated with new customer work, system operations, maintenance and reliability, construction necessary to support system growth, and emergency response work. This position is responsible for supervising assigned customer service supervisors. This position is also the key contact for company leadership within the community and is responsible for maintaining relationships with community officials and retail customers.

  • Performs all leadership duties including, but not limited to, hiring and rewarding talent, fostering an inclusive and safe workplace, partnering with employees to set clear goals and expectations, providing timely and specific feedback on performance, developing improvement plans to address performance gaps, addressing conflict with care and respect, identifying opportunities for growth and development, embracing and modeling a mindset of lifelong learning, ensuring employees report to work fit for duty, adhering to our Code of Conduct, interfaces with communities and customers and models Alliant Energy's Core Values at all times.
  • Oversees the safe planning, coordination, compliance and management of gas and electric operations activities in an assigned geographic area, including resources and material involved with new customer projects and system improvement projects, routine maintenance, and emergency work. Identifies system reliability gaps and corrects.
  • Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety, including observing and enforcing safety rules and operating practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, assisting in accident investigations, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe work behaviors which may lead to accidents.
  • Serves as the ultimate decision-maker during life-threatening emergency situations involving facilities, people, and property.
  • Provides oversight in the use of gas inspection maintenance and management system (GIMMS).
  • Coordinates with supply chain departments to plan, forecast, and schedule work that assists in managing logistics for material requirements.
  • Interacts with customers and ensures all customer interactions with others are handled promptly and efficiently, including resolving customer concerns and complaints.
  • Maintains solid working relationships with union leadership while making strategic recommendations to increase productivity, quality, and customer service levels.
  • Understands and enforces rules set by regulatory bodies, e.g., Department Understands and enforces rules set by regulatory bodies, Department of Labor (DOT), Occupational Safety and Safety Administration (OSHA), and Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
  • May manage the service and repair work in an assigned geographic area, agricultural, small business and residential, service, sales, and conservation activities as well as meter reading and meter operations activities.
  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy's Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in business, engineering, or related area Preferred

Required Experience
  • 5 years of experience in large electric construction, gas and electric operations, project management, or related work
  • 3 years supervisory experience or equivalent. (Equivalent supervisory experiences may include project management, providing work direction, leadership experience through temporary assignments, roles in the community or external organizations, or other demonstrated leadership experience.)

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Understands and enforces rules set by regulatory bodies, e.g., Department of Labor (DOL), Occupational Safety and Safety Administration (OSHA), and Department of Natural Resources (DNR). This position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and PHMSA regulations (Part 199).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of electric, gas or steam operating practices, construction standards, work methods, equipment, maintenance practices, regulatory compliance and materials preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with labor union management preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and applicable electric codes and DOT regulations preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand utility maps, plan and profiles, and drawings preferred.
  • Demonstrated financial skills such as budgeting and basic accounting.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of information technology applications. Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Pay Range:

$120,000-$140,000

This position is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
