As a Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant at Cypress School, you will collaborate with a team of professionals, including Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Education Specialists, and other Speech and Language Pathologists and assistants, to help students develop and strengthen their expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language skills. The core ideals of Cypress School are functional communication and community success. Key Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and conduct individual and/or group Speech Services Support Speech and Language Job Description / Essential Elements: Print Cypress School began operation on August 27, 2007 in Sonoma County providing non-public, special education services for children with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Cypress School is designed to meet the special education needs of children requiring more support than public schools are able to provide. The curriculum promotes developmental learning and the acquisition of communication and daily life skills, while addressing the needs of children with severe behavioral challenges. Because the school environment plays such a critical role with learning and behavior, the classroom design for Cypress School includes specialized areas for the development of speech and language, fine and gross motor skills, and learning through technology.

Cypress School uses the same instructional materials as the Sonoma County Office of Education, along with additional classroom materials designed for children with intensive needs. Individual goals and objectives will be developed for each student that will help them progress from their current developmental level toward meeting the California Content Standards. The staffing ratio is one adult to two students, with many students receiving one to one behavioral support.

School hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:18 p.m. weekdays except on Wednesdays when school is dismissed at noon to accommodate teacher training

Duties and Responsisbilties: Our Speech Therapist develops goals and trains Teacher Aides in implementing the goals through instruction, materials and curriculum. Consult hours should include some aide/student direct training, some aide/student observation of speech implementation and some goal instruction, materials and curriculum development and reporting progress. Speech therapist is expected to work as a collaborative team with teachers, teacher aides, and families about students' language skills.
