Position Summary

Provide academic support for students to develop math success at developmental and introductory levels.

This position will start August 2026.

Duties/Responsibilities 

Work closely with students to provide resources and tools which enables them to successfully complete their math courses.
Assist the Department of Mathematical Sciences with tutoring and monitoring of the Mathematics lab.
Provide tutor support for students who wish to take/repeat math placement test for higher placement score.
Support teacher education students preparing for the math portion of the Praxis test and MATH 103 - Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I.
Develop and teach supplemental instruction sessions for students in CORE 39 Math classes.
Select, supervise, support and evaluate Math tutors.
Conduct tutor-training each semester in accordance with the Association for the Coaching and Tutoring Profession (ACTP) guidelines.
Teach two sections of developmental Math each fall and spring semester if need arises. Math courses consist of MATH 081 - Foundations for Quantitative Reasoning and MATH 085 - Foundations for College Algebra.
Serve on the Placement Testing Committee.
Serve as liaison between Academic Success Center and the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
Maintain records, conduct program assessment, and administer tests.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Master's degree in Math or related area.
Solid understanding of developmental educational theory, practices, and assessment required.
Excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills required.
Knowledge of computers, internet, word processing, spreadsheet, and email software required.
Demonstrated ability to work as a team player.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

Experience teaching at the college level preferred.
Three years of related experience preferred.
Experience working with a student information system (Banner, etc.) preferred.

Functional Requirements

Remaining in a stationary position at a desk or workstation for extended periods of time for the majority of assigned duties.
Physical access to classrooms, other workstations, other departments and meeting rooms throughout campus as required for coordination, oversight and meetings.
Ability to use computers and computer systems (hardware and software) to set up functions, to enter data, to retrieve and process information and to create documents.
Ability to retrieve information from written documents and computer-generated reports.
Effective problem solving and the presentation of a professional demeanor while meeting deadlines and achieving critical outcomes, even under demanding conditions such as multiple priorities and short-notice deadlines.

Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements

Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
10-month schedule is 1 week prior to the Fall University Meeting (in August) to 1 week after the Spring Semester ends, plus 10 days of work each summer as assigned by the Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Excellence and Student Success.
Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
