Winthrop Position Title
Learning & Academic Coaching Support (CBE) GA
Job Purpose
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will support the Learning Coach in delivering academic coaching and student success services for students enrolled in competency-based education (CBE) programs. The GA will assist with student engagement, progress monitoring, and academic support initiatives that promote persistence and completion. You will help your students develop the confidence, study habits, emotional wellbeing, and communications skills to be successful in Winthrop programs.
This role is focused exclusively on CBE student success.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
1. Admissions, Enrollment & Registration Support (30%)
  • Assist with student onboarding processes including admissions, and registration support
  • Help evaluate application materials and track student progression through enrollment stages
  • Support course registration processes in alignment with program requirements and student goals
  • Collaborate with offices such as Financial Aid, Online Learning, and external partners

2. Student Coaching & Support (30%)
  • Support students individually and in small groups with goal setting for subscription periods and overall program completion
  • Provide basic academic coaching support (time management, study strategies, pacing)
  • Provide encouragement, reinforce positive behaviors and celebrate milestones of assigned students.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student support units to support student success
  • Help identify and share resources that support CBE student needs

3. Student Progress Monitoring & Outreach (30%)
  • Monitor and report student progress using university technologies and instructor feedback
  • Conduct regular outreach to students via text, phone, email and CRM systems
  • Analyze and interpret data to effectively improve student success and team productivity.
  • Assist with identifying students who may need intervention and support follow-up communication
  • Document student interactions and maintain accurate case notes
  • Help identify and share resources that support CBE student needs

4. Administrative Support (10%)
  • Assist with scheduling, documentation, and reporting related to coaching activities
  • Support special projects related to student success and retention
  • Perform other duties as assigned related to CBE academic coaching

Qualifications
Required:
  • Admitted graduate student in good academic standing
  • Bachelor's degree and related experience
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information

Preferred:
  • Experience supporting adult learners in distance learning environments.
  • Demonstrated experience working with at-risk learners.
  • Interest in academic coaching, advising, or student success
  • Familiarity with online or competency-based education environments
