Job description

Job Type
Full-time, Internship
Description
Attack Theatre: General Management Internship Job Description
Founded in 1994 by Michele de la Reza and Peter Kope, Attack Theatre fuses modern dance, original live music, and interdisciplinary art forms to create engaging dance performances. We currently operate with a staff of two artistic directors, an executive director, seven administrative employees, and a company of dancers, teaching artists, musicians, and designers working interdependently.
General Management Internships at Attack Theatre are ideal for individuals interested in the operations and administration of a dynamic performing arts organization. Due to the small, collaborative nature of the staff, this position provides a valuable learning experience not typically available in more compartmentalized internships. Interns will gain insight into the inner workings of a growing nonprofit arts organization that is rooted locally and engaged globally.
This is a full-time, unpaid, hybrid position with remote and in-person responsibilities. The staff and artists work primarily at Attack Theatre's new headquarters in the heart of Lawrenceville.
Attack Theatre is a Pittsburgh-based dance company that creates work at the intersection of art and community, resulting in programs that are personal, authentic, welcoming, and fearless. Under the artistic direction of Peter Kope and Michele de la Reza, the company maintains a commitment to remain curious in our investigation of new ideas and productions; to collaborate through deliberate, interdisciplinary partnerships; and to connect with local and global communities, providing accessible, creative learning opportunities. Attack Theatre's new home in the heart of Lawrenceville offers performances, classes, and community events, and strives to be an inclusive epicenter of dance, learning, and community partnerships. Rooted in reflection, investigation, and imagination, Attack Theatre conducts hundreds of arts education programs in school and community settings each year, supporting creative learning and wellness for participants of all ages.
Intern Position Description:
The General Management intern interacts with all departments, including marketing, finance, development, artistic, production, and creative learning. Duties include daily business functions, research/analysis, archival organization, board reports, artistic administration, and special projects aligned with the candidate's individual focus. This position reports to the Operations and Partnerships Manager and works closely with the Executive Director. The company's studio/rehearsal space at 212 45th Street in Lawrenceville is designed to facilitate easy collaboration between the artistic and administrative staff.
Requirements
Position Responsibilities:
Applicant must be willing to take initiative, work independently, and effectively within a fast-paced environment. Internship responsibilities may include:
  • Aid with marketing research and development for performances and events.
  • Contribute to the preparation of local and national grants and final reports, upkeep of grant calendar and deadlines
  • Research new foundations, donor prospects, and corporate sponsors
  • Collaborate with administration and operations planning on seasonal production management
  • Assist the education team with outreach, research, and digital file organization
  • Conduct documentation and archival work
  • Attend weekly staff meetings

Intern Will Gain:
  • Diverse skills and hands-on experience in nonprofit management for a mid-sized performing arts organization.
  • Ability to add development, fundraising, operations, programming, education, and general management experience to a resume
  • Experience supporting Attack Theatre programs that include local theater and site-specific productions, arts education, and touring initiatives
  • Direct interaction with varied artists, designers, teachers, and technicians
  • Opportunities to give creative insights or feedback regarding potential projects/performances, education, marketing, and sponsorship strategies
  • Opportunities to interact with professionals in the nonprofit sector, with emphasis on the arts

All interns are encouraged to share any specific skills or knowledge they would like to gain during their time with Attack Theatre. Staff will work with interns to develop or assist with projects that align with these interests.
Requirements
Intern Will Have:
  • Interest in non-profit performing arts
  • A collaborative mindset and openness to a human-centered approach to ideation and implementation
  • Organized and detail-oriented?
  • Desire to transform ideas into action?
  • Curiosity and interest in learning the field?
  • Semi-regular availability (schedule will be mutually agreed upon)?

And most importantly, intern must be flexible, self-motivated, organized, able to work independently, and interested in and passionate about learning every day.
Attack Theatre Values:
  • Cultural Responsibility: We commit to becoming a community of learners through equitable practices that celebrate and support the creative in all of us, regardless of who they are or how they identify. We start by challenging our perspectives and expanding our artistic boundaries through empathy, and the opening of our doors, hearts, and minds to understand how every lived experience contributes to the artful expression of life through dance.
  • Collaboration + Expression: At the heart of our creative process, we forge creative partnerships with artists, audiences, and communities to cultivate a spirit of inquiry and experimentation as an integral part of our artistic vision.
  • Learning: We nurture the next generation(s) of artists, thinkers, and leaders through creative learning programs rooted in reflection, curiosity, and imagination.
