In this hands-on leadership role, you'll coordinate and lead swim lessons, aquatics programs and lifeguard programs that help keep our community safe, active, and connected. The position also supports daily operations, supervises staff and maintains facility standards. From teaching life-saving swim skills to creating fun, welcoming experiences for kids, families, and seniors, your work will have a lasting impact every day.
This fun, flexible position pays $18.00 - $20.00 an hour and offers a generous benefits package that includes excellent health, dental, vision, and hearing insurance as well as generous paid time off that includes 10 days of vacation per year, 12 sick days per year (6 of which can be taken like vacation days), 12 paid holidays, 2 personal days, and the ability to earn an additional 2 days of PTO through our wellness program. KROC CENTER MISSION
In keeping with the mission of The Wisconsin & Upper MI Division of The Salvation Army, The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, located in Green Bay, WI provides facilities, programs and services that strengthen, encourage and enrich children, adults, and seniors through positive life-changing experiences.
SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Aquatics Coordinator will assist the Aquatics Manager at the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division of the Salvation Army Kroc Center with providing oversight for the daily operations of the aquatics center. Responsibilities will include scheduling and training staff, assisting with program development, record keeping and data entry into software system, lead and instruct aquatic activities and assist the Aquatics Manager with administrative functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position.   1. Facilitates a safe Aquatic Center environment for all Kroc Center staff, volunteers, members and participants.
  1. Schedules aquatics staff, monitors and reports to Aquatics Manager on the work performance of the Lead Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Lifeguards, and Attendants and monitors ACA compliance for all aquatics staff
  1. Assist in the planning, directing, and guidance of the swim lessons and lifeguarding classes and activities of the Kroc Center.
  1. Act as a Swim Instructor and/or Lead Lifeguard for assigned programs.
  1. Coordinate Swim Lessons and field trips (rentals).
  1. Assist the Aquatics Manager with timely and accurate record keeping, including the areas of statistical reports related to all aquatics programs, accounting of expenditures and other reports as directed.
  1. Ensure the attractive appearance, operational function, and general upkeep of the aquatic center including equipment and furnishings. Assist in the procurement, maintenance and repair of aquatic equipment and facilities as necessary and within capability.
  1. Participate in designated staff meetings, training and professional development courses as directed by supervisor.
  1. The Aquatics Coordinator will act as the Instructor and or Lifeguard, only when other options are exhausted. The Aquatics Coordinator will be the first line of backup coverage for vacant shifts and will be responsible for providing coverage whenever possible.

QUALIFICATIONS

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT: Uses a variety of office equipment including a computer, telephone, fax machine, copiers, printers and projection machines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Two years of related work experience.
  • Two or more years of college preferred

- OR -
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification recommended
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification required within 90 days of employment.
  • Certified Water Aerobics instructor/Silver Sneakers required within 90 days of employment
  • Certified Pool Operator strongly recommended.

Applicant must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's license with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army's insurance carrier.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a self-motivated and self-directed schedule.
  • Ability to address multiple projects in a timely manner while being responsive and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
  • Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office products, e-mail, and Internet.
  • Knowledge of all four competitive strokes (Front Crawl/Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly), and the two recreation/survival strokes (Elementary Backstroke and Sidestroke)
  • Working with infants, children, and adults in small and large group settings.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is also required to have the mental and physical abilities required to successfully meet Red Cross Lifeguard standards.

The primary duties of this job take place in a busy public Aquatics Center. The noise level will be high. Temperatures will be above normal room temperature in a high-humidity environment. This position will have exposure to chemicals and fumes typically found in a pool environment, as well as exposure to bodily fluids and other potentially infectious materials.
Some duties of this job are performed in an office environment at normal room temperature. The noise level in this work environment is usually low to moderate.
For other duties of this job, such as outdoor special events and community center activities, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time, such as high temperature and humidity. The noise level in the work environment at these events is usually moderate to loud.
