What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Lead Tong, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Lead Tong in the oil and gas industry, you need strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of drilling operations, and experience with drill pipe handling, often acquired through on-the-job training and safety certifications. Familiarity with hydraulic tong equipment, torque monitoring systems, and adherence to safety protocols is essential. Leadership, teamwork, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for overseeing crew operations and maintaining safety standards. These skills are vital to ensure efficient, safe drilling operations and to minimize risks on the rig site.

What are Lead Tongs?

Lead tongs are specialized tools used primarily in the oil and gas industry for handling and making up or breaking out drill pipe, casing, or tubing on a drilling rig. They are large, heavy-duty wrenches designed to grip and turn sections of pipe, ensuring they are securely tightened or loosened during drilling operations. Operators use lead tongs to apply the necessary torque for these tasks, which is vitally important for safety and efficiency on the rig. Proper use of lead tongs helps prevent equipment damage and ensures a secure connection between pipe sections.

What are some common challenges faced by Lead Tong operators in oil drilling operations?

Lead Tong operators often encounter challenges such as working under high-pressure conditions and ensuring the safety of both themselves and their team during pipe handling operations. The role requires strong coordination and communication with other crew members, especially during rig-up and rig-down procedures. Additionally, Lead Tongs must remain vigilant for equipment malfunctions and be prepared to troubleshoot issues quickly to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency. Adhering to strict safety protocols is essential to prevent accidents and ensure smooth drilling operations.

Rather than another standalone dashboard, Weli is designed to operate within the CRM and portfolio management tools advisors already use, enabling proactive outreach, personalized advice, and AUM growth at scale.

Customer validation is complete, the wedge is defined, and initial pilot conversations are underway. We are now seeking the founder to lead the venture from here.

Market Context
  • A $70T intergenerational wealth transfer is underway across North America
  • The U.S. advisor base of approximately 380,000 faces a projected shortfall of 100,000+ by 2034
  • TAM is estimated at $2.28B in the U.S., with a SAM of $1.45B and an initial SOM of $145M

The Partnership
  • Founder equity with meaningful ownership from inception
  • Pre-seed capital committed by FutureSight for early hires and MVP development, with potential for follow-on funding
  • Venture building resources, including embedded design, engineering, growth, and fundraising support from day one
  • Investor and advisor network across vertical AI and early-stage capital markets
  • A true co-creation model in which you operate as CEO with FutureSight's cross-functional team as your partner
What you'll own

As Co-Founder & CEO, you will set the venture's direction and lead its execution.

  • Strategy โ€” Refine the ICP, pricing model, and product positioning
  • Customer Development โ€” Lead pilots with independent RIAs, convert them to paid engagements, and build the go-to-market motion
  • Product โ€” Partner with the FutureSight product and engineering team to ship V1 and iterate on user feedback
  • Capital โ€” Lead the seed raise, supported by FutureSight's network and traction
  • Team โ€” Recruit and lead the founding team, and establish the cultural foundation of the company
Co-Founder Profile
  • Previous founding experience at a venture-backed company
  • Demonstrated success in B2B SaaS go-to-market, including sales and customer engagement
  • Fundraising fluency, with the ability to develop investor narratives and close capital
  • Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain top talent
  • Clear-eyed understanding of the risks and demands of co-founding a venture-backed company
  • Direct exposure to WealthTech, AI agents/LLMs
