Job description

1st shift - Forming Machine Operator

Job Description

The Forming Machine Operator sets up, starts, and runs cold forming machines to manufacture high-quality fasteners. This role performs complete machine set-ups with oversight from the lead operator, conducts regular quality checks using inspection tools, and ensures the forming area remains well-maintained and efficient. The operator collaborates closely with the lead operator and team members to troubleshoot issues, maintain production standards, and support a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete set-ups on cold forming machines, obtaining approval from the lead operator before production runs.
  • Start up and run two or more Jern Yao forming machines to meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular in-process quality checks using appropriate quality inspection tools and document results as required.
  • Use the log-book to record detailed information on machine performance, set-ups, production runs, and any issues encountered.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance tasks are completed on schedule and support the general upkeep and cleanliness of the forming area.
  • Assist with loading wire into machines safely and efficiently to maintain continuous production.
  • Perform machine tool changes accurately and in a timely manner to support product changeovers and minimize downtime.
  • Update the lead operator on machine troubleshooting activities and escalate issues that require additional support.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to ensure parts meet specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Follow all safety procedures and quality standards while working collaboratively with team members in the forming department.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience operating cold forming machines.
  • Hands-on experience with forming machines and cold forming operations.
  • Proficiency in machine set-up and forming machine operation, including Jern Yao formers.
  • Ability to perform machine tool changes accurately and safely.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Proficiency in using quality inspection tools for in-process checks.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to performing regular quality inspections.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Jern Yao forming machines or similar cold forming equipment.
  • Experience in metals manufacturing or automotive-related production environments.
  • Ability to maintain detailed written communication using log-books or similar documentation tools.
  • Capability to support preventive maintenance activities and general equipment upkeep.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to work closely with lead operators and peers.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hudson, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $36.00/hr.
