Lead Operating Engineer - JLL
What this job involves: Join JLL as a Lead Operating Engineer and play a key role in supporting facility operations and engineering excellence within a commercial real estate environment. In this position, you will oversee engineering staff, support critical building operations, and help ensure all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards. You will contribute directly to maintaining high-performing facilities that support client business objectives while promoting a strong culture of safety, reliability, and operational excellence. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineering professional who enjoys leading teams, troubleshooting complex systems, and driving quality facility performance.
What your day-to-day will look like:
  • Supervise engineering team operations and support the delegation and completion of preventive maintenance, repairs, and equipment installations.
  • Perform inspections of building equipment and systems to ensure maintenance activities align with operational and safety standards.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, generators, and emergency backup systems.
  • Monitor building automation systems (BAS), respond to alarms, and coordinate corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate emergency repair activities and prioritize work assignments based on operational impact and staffing availability.
  • Manage operational permits including hot work, roof access, and facility work permits while ensuring compliance with site procedures.
  • Maintain inventory levels for tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies, including purchase order support and vendor coordination.

Required Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with commercial building systems and facility maintenance operations.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Universal CFC Certification required.
  • Working knowledge of CMMS and BAS platforms.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and life safety systems.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, technical manuals, work orders, and engineering drawings.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting safety-focused or safety-sensitive work environments.
  • Familiarity with commercial real estate facility management operations and best practices.
  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, and multiple stakeholder relationships.
  • Trade school certification, union apprenticeship training, or military technical experience.
  • Background in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience implementing engineering quality assurance or preventive maintenance programs.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Work Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Salary: $48.07 - $52.88

Estimated compensation for this position:
100,000.00 - 110,000.00 USD per year
This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
