What is a lead development representative?

Lead Development Representatives (LDRs) are sales professionals responsible for identifying, qualifying, and nurturing potential customers, known as leads, for a business. Their primary role is to initiate contact with prospects, assess their interest and needs, and determine if they are a good fit for the company’s products or services. LDRs often use cold calling, email outreach, and social media to generate and qualify leads before passing them on to sales teams for further engagement. They play a critical role in building the sales pipeline and supporting overall business growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a lead development representative?

To thrive as a Lead Development Representative, you need strong communication skills, persuasive outreach abilities, and a foundational understanding of sales or marketing, often supported by relevant experience or a business degree. Familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce, lead generation tools, and email automation platforms is typically required. Resilience, active listening, and a proactive mindset are standout soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for effectively identifying prospects, building relationships, and driving high-quality leads to support the sales pipeline.

How does a lead development representative collaborate with sales and marketing teams to achieve targets?

As a Lead Development Representative (LDR), you'll work closely with both sales and marketing teams to ensure a steady flow of qualified leads. This typically involves attending regular alignment meetings, sharing feedback on lead quality, and updating both teams on lead status. You'll also use CRM systems to track interactions and coordinate follow-ups, ensuring that promising prospects are handed off smoothly to sales reps. Effective communication and teamwork are key, as your outreach efforts are integral to the overall sales pipeline success.

As we continue expanding throughout Southern California and beyond, we're seeking an ambitious Sales Development Representative who wants to build a long-term career in technology sales.
This is more than an appointment-setting role. If you enjoy building relationships, starting conversations, uncovering business needs, and creating new opportunities, this role offers a clear pathway for advancement into Business Development and sales leadership positions.
Why Join Global IT?

  • Clear career advancement opportunities into Business Development and sales leadership roles
  • Access to experienced technical experts, engineers, and executive leadership
  • Sell highly relevant services including Cybersecurity, Managed IT, Cloud, Microsoft 365, and Connectivity solutions
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture that values integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Opportunity to help businesses solve meaningful technology challenges
  • Growing company with long-term investment in sales and business development

What Success Looks Like

Within your first 90 days, you will:
  • Develop proficiency with HubSpot and our sales process
  • Build an active pipeline of qualified prospects
  • Consistently schedule qualified discovery meetings
  • Demonstrate confidence discussing business challenges with decision-makers
  • Become a trusted resource for prospects seeking technology solutions

You May Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Enjoy building relationships and starting conversations
  • Are comfortable speaking with business leaders and decision-makers
  • Stay organized and follow through on commitments
  • Can manage multiple opportunities simultaneously
  • Remain positive and persistent when facing rejection
  • Are interested in technology, cybersecurity, cloud services, or business consulting

Key Responsibilities

Lead Generation & Prospecting
·         Generate qualified appointments and sales opportunities through outbound cold calling, email outreach, social selling, networking, and lead nurturing activities.
·         Research target organizations and identify decision-makers across multiple industries and business verticals.
·         Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospects using both company-provided leads and self-sourced opportunities.
·         Re-engage inactive leads, former clients, and dormant opportunities to generate new business conversations.
·         Conduct discovery conversations that identify business challenges, current technology environments, growth objectives, and decision-making processes.
Appointment Setting & Opportunity Development
·         Schedule qualified discovery meetings for the sales team.
·         Ensure appointments meet established qualification criteria before advancing opportunities.
·         Gather accurate information regarding prospect needs, business priorities, budgets, technology concerns, and timelines.
·         Maintain ongoing communication with prospects throughout the qualification process.
·         Support the sales team by providing detailed notes and relevant prospect intelligence before meetings.
CRM & Sales Operations
·         Maintain accurate and detailed records within HubSpot.
·         Document all activities, conversations, discoveries, follow-up commitments, and next steps.
·         Build and manage HubSpot sequences, workflows, tasks, and follow-up campaigns.
·         Monitor lead progression and proactively identify opportunities requiring additional engagement.
·         Maintain high standards of CRM data integrity and pipeline accuracy.
Collaboration & Client Experience
·         Work closely with Sales, Operations, Technical Leadership, and Executive Leadership to ensure prospects are connected with the appropriate resources.
·         Demonstrate a solution-oriented approach by identifying how Global IT's services can help solve business challenges.
·         Communicate prospect feedback, market observations, and common client concerns to internal teams.
·         Represent Global IT professionally and consistently in all interactions.

Required Qualifications

·         Minimum 2 years of experience in outbound sales, appointment setting, business development, inside sales, or lead generation.
·         Experience using CRM platforms such as HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar systems.
·         Strong verbal and written communication skills.
·         Proven ability to manage multiple prospects and follow-up activities simultaneously.
·         Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
·         Comfortable making outbound cold calls daily.
·         Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.

Preferred Qualifications

·         Experience selling Managed IT Services, Cybersecurity, Cloud Solutions, Microsoft technologies, or other B2B technology services.
·         Understanding of the managed services (MSP) business model.
·         Knowledge of the B2B sales cycle.
·         Experience working with executive-level decision makers.

Core Competencies
Relationship Building
·         Establishes trust quickly, develops authentic connections, and creates a positive client experience from the first interaction.
Organization & Accountability
·         Maintains detailed records, tracks commitments, follows through consistently, and manages multiple priorities effectively.
Communication Excellence
·         Communicates professionally through phone, email, and virtual meetings while actively listening to understand client needs.
Consultative Selling
·         Focuses on understanding business challenges and connecting prospects with the right solutions rather than delivering scripted sales pitches.
Persistence & Resilience
·         Remains positive and focused despite rejection, adapting approaches while maintaining professionalism and enthusiasm.
Team Collaboration
·         Works effectively across departments and leverages internal resources to deliver the best outcome for prospective clients.

Pathway for Advancement:

Successful Sales Development Representatives may advance into roles such as Account Executive, Business Development Manager, Sales Manager, or Strategic Account Manager, with opportunities to take on greater responsibility for client relationships, revenue generation, and business strategy.
