Job description

Salary: DOE

Diversified Construction & Design is seeking an experienced Shipping and Receiving Clerk to manage the flow of construction materials, tools, and supplies both at company facilities as well as construction job sites. They inspect incoming deliveries for damage, verify quantities against purchase orders, coordinate with procurement and project managers to ensure supplies are accurately distributed to the laydown yard, storeroom/tool room, and active jobsites. The Shipping and Receiving Clerk maintains inventory, both physically and electronically, including moving materials using a forklift, when required.


Pre-Employment Requirement: Employment is contingent on pre-employment drug screen and background check.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Material Handling and Tracking

  • Log incoming and outgoing freight using enterprise resource planning (ERP), inventory management systems, and shipment tracking platforms.
  • Prepare documents, such as bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials.
  • Operate on- and off-road forklifts to transport materials to storeroom/toolroom, at laydown yard, and across the jobsites.

Quality Assurance

  • Inspect shipments for transit damage and verify that delivered items strictly match purchase orders / invoices, and specifications.

Communication and Jobsite Coordination

  • Provide information to procurement team members, project and account managers, and suppliers/vendors by telephone, e-mail, or in person.
  • Stage materials, prep necessary tools, and work closely with project procurement/managers and field superintendents for timely dispatch to job locations.

Logistics & Freight:

  • Prepare outgoing shipments (e.g., return damaged or incorrect items, send tools for repair), calculate freight costs, and manage shipping documentation.

Inventory Control:

  • Conduct regular cycle counts and organize the storeroom, tool room, and laydown yard to prevent material shortages or misplaced materials, tools and supplies.
  • Track inventory counts and check items in inventory for damages or discrepancies.
  • Maintains organized laydown and storage areas to support efficient staging and workface readiness.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience in all aspects of shipping, receiving and inventory management.
  • Ability to read and understand purchase orders/invoices, bills of lading, and specifications.
  • Strong experience with ERP (preferred), inventory management systems and shipment tracking platforms (e.g., UPS/FedEx).
  • Prior forklift operation experience required (construction or outdoor environment strongly preferred).
  • Valid off-road forklift certification preferred (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
  • Valid drivers license and provide a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR); travel to job sites as needed.

Additional Qualities Necessary:

  • Strong awareness of jobsite safety practices and willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to follow directions, communicate clearly, and work as part of a coordinated site procurement and logistics team.
