What does it mean to be laid off?

Being laid off means that an employee's job has been terminated by their employer, usually due to business reasons such as downsizing, restructuring, or budget cuts, rather than because of the employee's performance. Layoffs are typically not the fault of the employee and often happen when companies need to reduce their workforce for financial reasons. Employees who are laid off may be eligible for severance pay, unemployment benefits, and other forms of support depending on their location and company policies.

What jobs will be eliminated in the next 10 years?

Jobs such as data entry clerks, telemarketers, and assembly line workers are expected to decline due to automation and technological advancements. Roles that involve repetitive tasks are increasingly replaced by AI, robotics, and software, leading to shifts in employment demand across industries.

What support or resources are typically available to employees after a layoff?

After a layoff, many employers offer support such as severance packages, career counseling, and outplacement services to help affected employees transition to new opportunities. Access to unemployment benefits, resume workshops, and job search assistance are also common. It's important to ask your former employer about any available programs or resources, as well as to connect with professional networks and local workforce development agencies for additional support.
