Job Description - Teaching Assistant (Part Time)

Fairburn Avenue Elementary School is a high-performing Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 5th grade school located in the Westwood community of Los Angeles. The Role

Fairburn Avenue Elementary School is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, and student-centered Teaching Assistants (TAs) to support our TK-5 classrooms during the 2026-2027 school year. Teaching Assistants play a vital role in creating a positive learning environment by supporting classroom instruction, supervising students during non-instructional times, and partnering with teachers to ensure students receive the academic and social-emotional support they need to thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise students during school arrival, recess, lunch, physical education, and other student activities.
  • Provide direct support to teachers in the preparation, delivery, and implementation of classroom instruction and activities.
  • Assist students with assignments, projects, and classroom learning activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to support enrichment and differentiated learning opportunities.
  • Prepare instructional materials, organize classroom resources, and support daily classroom operations.
  • Assist with recordkeeping and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Foster positive relationships with students and contribute to a supportive school culture.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, child development, psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, childcare, camp, tutoring, or youth development setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Demonstrated patience, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting student success.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also taking initiative when appropriate.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Must meet all applicable LAUSD employment and clearance requirements.

Hours & Compensation

The role requires approximately 25 hours per week (5 to 6 hours per day) with a rate in the range of $22/hr - $25/hr based on experience and qualifications. Contract length: 10 months
