WHAT YOU'LL DO & HOW IT SHAPES OUR SUCCESS
As a Packaging Editor, you must be collaborative, detail-oriented, and committed to ensuring accuracy and compliance on a wide range of packaging solutions, from existing formats to innovative, new-to-market solutions. We're looking for a quick study who will be a sponge soaking up internal systems, industry standards and regulations, and our products and consumers.
You must be adept at managing workflow and timelines across key partners, flexing between technical and creative writing, and staying up to speed on all relevant legal, safety, and environmental requirements. We're looking for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments that demand creativity, accuracy, flexibility, organization, detail-orientation, and collaboration.
As a Packaging Editor, you will:
  • Create accurate, thorough packaging editorial that complies with all relevant legal, marketing, creative, safety, retailer, licensor, and/or environmental messaging requirements
  • Serve as a Center of Excellence, in partnership with Writing, Legal, Product, and Quality departments, for writing, editing, and assembling packaging copy and procuring required language translations as needed
  • Manage workflow and timelines across key internal partners to guarantee packaging editorial meets all partner needs

Core responsibilities:
  • Write, edit, and assemble packaging copy, including descriptions, instructions, and labels for a broad range of products
  • Fully understand and apply U.S. and Canadian packaging regulations and how they impact the type of packaging copy required depending on multiple variables
  • Efficiently navigate multiple computer systems and databases to reference and document relevant product information
  • Research and analyze products and style guides to determine the editorial strategy and translate brand voice as needed
  • Provide final oversight of packaging artwork to ensure that editorial is complete and legally compliant
  • Strategically partner to assess and iterate application of new and emerging regulatory standards
  • Proofread and edit foreign vendor product labels to ensure clarity and provide translations as needed This position reports to a Studio Art Director

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
The following are required to be considered for this role:
  • BFA or BA in English, Journalism, Communication, Business or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience editing, copy editing or proofreading
  • Professional experience reviewing and editing written materials for accuracy, clarity, grammar, punctuation, and spelling

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A portfolio that demonstrates excellent copywriting skills, strong conceptual and critical thinking skills, strong editorial judgment, and skill in capturing critical details accurately and concisely
  • Outstanding command of English language, both written and verbal, including proficiency in writing, editing and rewriting quality editorial that meets business and creative strategies
  • High degree of accuracy and confidence in identifying and correcting grammar, spelling, punctuation and style errors
  • Ability to master a high degree of new technical knowledge and style guidelines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to partner effectively with employees at various levels in editorial, design, product development, Legal, as well as outside clients
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to work under pressure to meet production schedules, while maintaining close attention to detail and high-quality standards
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work across disciplines (account, creative, traffic, and partner teams) honing and crafting the Hallmark brand voice on packaging
  • Be a utility player wearing multiple hats switching from a tech editor skill set to a creative writer skill set flawlessly

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
  • This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, giving you the best of both worlds: collaborating in person at Headquarters in Kansas City, MO and enjoying the flexibility of working remotely.
  • A portfolio is required for this position. Your portfolio should be compiled into one PDF document that is no larger than 5 MB.   • The salary range for this role is $48,000- $70,000. Final compensation varies based on several factors.
