Position Summary
The Senior Landscape Architect acts as the Design-Build Director and is the key leader responsible for overseeing complex landscape design projects from concept through construction. This role combines high-level creative design, technical expertise, project management, and client engagement. The Senior Landscape Architect guides project teams, ensures design excellence, upholds quality standards, and collaborates closely with construction operations to execute high-value design-build projects for commercial, municipal, institutional, and large residential clients.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership
  • Lead the conceptual and schematic design process for major projects, ensuring innovative, functional, and sustainable landscape solutions.
  • Develop site plans, planting plans, grading plans, hardscape design, and construction details.
  • Review and refine all design deliverables to meet firm standards for aesthetics, constructability, and client goals.
  • Guide junior designers, landscape architects, and CAD/3D modelers; provide mentorship and design direction.

Project Management
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, managing timelines, budgets, and design resources.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and internal teams including estimating, construction management, procurement, and field operations.
  • Prepare and deliver project presentations, conceptual packages, construction documents, and design reports.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as primary design contact for clients, developers, architects, engineers, and governing agencies.
  • Facilitate project meetings, design reviews, and approvals.
  • Build strong client relationships and support business development efforts through design expertise and presentations.

Technical & Construction Integration
  • Produce and/or oversee high-quality construction drawings, specifications, and documentation.
  • Ensure designs align with construction realities, local codes, ADA guidelines, drainage requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct site visits during construction to verify design intent, address field adjustments, and support project delivery.

Quality Assurance & Professional Practice
  • Maintain high standards for accuracy, innovation, and design integrity.
  • Stay current with landscape architecture trends, materials, software, and sustainability practices.
  • Assist with internal design standards, templates, workflows, and process improvements.

Qualifications
Education & Licensing
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.
  • Professional licensure (PLA / RLA) required.

Experience
  • 8-15+ years of professional landscape architecture experience in the Design-Build field.
  • Proven background leading large-scale projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, LandFX, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and project management software.
  • Strong understanding of site grading, drainage, plant materials, hardscape construction, and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to produce high-quality design packages and detailed construction documents.
