Job description

Job Summary:

The Landscape Irrigation and Enhancement Manager is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation and landscape lighting systems and landscape planting for residential properties. This position requires technical knowledge of irrigation and lighting systems, attention to detail, and the ability to provide high-quality customer service. The technician will work with all the landscape crews to ensure our clients have aesthetically pleasing landscapes and softscape contributing to the health and beauty of the environment while maintaining the value of our client’s gardens.

Duties/Responsibilities


  • Landscape Enhancements:
    • Assist with landscape enhancement projects, including planting beds, hardscaping, softscaping, and lighting installations.
    • Install and maintain decorative features, including water features, lighting, and other aesthetic elements.
    • Advise on and implement upgrades to enhance the overall appearance of the landscape.
  • Irrigation System Installation and Maintenance:
  • Install, repair, and maintain various types of irrigation systems, including sprinklers, drip systems, and controllers.
  • Perform routine inspections and adjustments to ensure systems are functioning optimally.
  • Diagnose issues with irrigation systems, such as clogged lines, broken sprinkler heads, or electrical malfunctions, and make necessary repairs.
  • Program irrigation timers and controllers to ensure appropriate watering schedules.
  • Landscape Lighting System Installation and Maintenance:
    • Install, repair, and maintain various types of landscape lighting systems and transformer and timing controllers.
    • Perform routine inspections and adjustments to ensure systems is functioning correctly.
    • Diagnose issues with the lighting system, such burned light bulbs, wire connections, fuses, and lighting timers.
    • Program the timers and transformers to ensure adequate lighting.
  • Water Conservation:
    • Evaluate irrigation systems for efficiency, ensuring proper water usage and conservation practices.
    • Recommend adjustments or upgrades to systems that improve water efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
    • Identify and resolve problems related to irrigation systems, plant health, and water distribution.
    • Provide quick solutions for issues such as poor drainage, system malfunctions, or plant over/underwatering.
  • Crew Management:
    • Conducts regular checks on all Torrey Pines Landscape Portfolio.
    • Develops a good relationship with the all foreman, and labor positions.
    • Interacts with all foremen providing feedback to the Maintenance Managers.
  • Customer Interaction:
    • Communicate with clients about their irrigation needs and enhancement options.
    • Provide recommendations for system upgrades or improvements based on site conditions and customer preferences.
    • Ensure customer satisfaction by maintaining high-quality service and addressing any concerns promptly.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
    • Operate and maintain tools and equipment such as trenchers, pipe cutters, and pressure testers.
    • Ensure all equipment is kept in good working condition and report any needed repairs or replacements to supervisors.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when handling equipment, chemicals, and materials.
    • Ensure compliance with local regulations regarding water usage and environmental impact.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to company standards for safety and appearance.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and any system issues or repairs.
    • Provide regular updates to supervisors or clients on system performance or enhancement progress.
    • Lead a team of landscape enhancement laborers, assigning tasks, and ensuring productivity.
    • Train and mentor team members on landscaping techniques, equipment usage, and safety protocols.
    • Maintain a positive and motivating work environment to maximize team performance.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Must be bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Excellent understanding of groundskeeping and landscaping practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently and thoroughly.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Thorough understanding of how to care for various types of lawns, greenery, and plants.
  • Ability to operate various types of power equipment including lawn mowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications (e.g., Irrigation Association Certification) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in landscape enhancement installation or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, controllers, and water management principles.
  • Strong knowledge of landscape lighting systems, and wiring.
  • Experience with landscape enhancement tasks, such as planting and hardscaping, is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair irrigation systems and equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-service-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license (preferably with a clean driving record).
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials (up to 50 pounds).
  • Comfort with working outdoors in various weather conditions.
