Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Test Engineer with a strong electrical engineering foundation and solid software development background. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing Units Under Test (UUTs), developing test strategies, creating test cases, and implementing fault detection and fault isolation testing. This role will also include developing test set software on VDATS and supporting the design of Interface Test Adapters (ITAs).
Key Responsibilities
• Analyze Units Under Test to understand functionality, interfaces, failure modes, and test requirements.
• Develop test requirements, test procedures, and detailed test cases for electrical and electronic systems.
• Design and implement fault detection and fault isolation tests.
• Develop, debug, and maintain test set software using VDATS.
• Support the design, development, and validation of Interface Test Adapters.
• Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, interface control documents, and technical specifications.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues during test development and execution.
• Collaborate with systems, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineering teams.
• Document test methods, results, failures, and corrective actions.
• Support verification, validation, and qualification activities as required.
• Lead/participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR) for test software, ITA designs, test fixtures, and UUT test strategies.
• Review electrical schematics, interface control documents, software design descriptions, test procedures, and requirements documentation.
• Create and maintain test plans, test procedures, test reports, fault isolation documentation, and design review packages.
• Document test software design, configuration, version history, validation results, and known limitations.
• Clearly communicate technical findings, risks, design concerns, and recommended corrective actions to engineering and program stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience developing test solutions for electronic or electromechanical systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical circuits, signals, instrumentation, and troubleshooting methods.
• Software development experience in test environments.
• Experience with VDATS or similar automated test systems.
• Ability to analyze UUT behavior and create effective fault isolation and diagnostic tests.
• Experience designing or supporting ITAs, test fixtures, cable assemblies, or interface hardware.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with automated test equipment, data acquisition, and instrumentation.
• Familiarity with LabVIEW, LabWindows CVI, Python, or similar programming languages.
• Experience in Aerospace, Defense and Depot Level Maintenance, or other regulated engineering environments.
• Knowledge of requirements-based testing and formal verification processes and Fault insertion demonstrations.
• Experience supporting production test, depot test, or maintenance test environments.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is an electrical engineer with strong software capability who can bridge hardware analysis and automated test development. They should be comfortable understanding how a UUT works, determining how it can fail, designing tests to detect and isolate those failures, and implementing those tests in VDATS-based software.
Additional Required Experience
• Experience testing, troubleshooting, or supporting complex OpenVPX assemblies, including module-level and system-level integration.
• Familiarity with OpenVPX backplanes, high-speed interfaces, power distribution, signal integrity considerations, and rugged embedded computing architectures.
• Experience with high-speed Ethernet interfaces over both copper and fiber, including integration, test, troubleshooting, and performance validation.
• Experience with embedded software development, debugging, and integration in hardware test environments.
