Senior Test Engineer

 

Permanent position - 100% Onsite in Tampa

9/80 work schedule

Summary:

Our client, a leading provider of secure, high-reliability electronics and embedded systems for the defense, aerospace, and intelligence industries, is seeking a Senior Test Engineer for their Tampa facility. This is a critical role within a high-tech, low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment, supporting sensitive national security programs. The Senior Test Engineer will serve as the technical lead for test functions across complex electronic assemblies and systems, developing and maintaining functional test platforms, optimizing test processes, and collaborating with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure mission success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the full lifecycle of test engineering support for production programs, from concept to delivery
  • Design and develop functional and automated test systems based on detailed electrical specifications, schematics, and interface requirements
  • Develop and debug test programs for in-house and vendor-built test stations (utilizing PXI, LabVIEW, TestStand, etc.)
  • Coordinate the design, build, integration, and validation of test platforms-both in-house and with external vendors
  • Support first article testing (FAT), environmental stress screening (ESS), and production test activities
  • Troubleshoot complex analog and digital circuits to the component level using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other bench equipment
  • Interface directly with customers and cross-functional teams to address test requirements and resolve technical issues
  • Author technical documentation including test procedures, troubleshooting guides, reports, and proposal inputs
  • Train and support technicians on new test platforms and advanced diagnostic methods
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce test time, improve yields, and lower test-related costs
  • Stay current with advancements in test equipment, standards, and methodologies through seminars, certifications, and industry literature

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline (or equivalent work experience)
  • At least 2 years of experience in electronics test engineering within a manufacturing or defense/aerospace environment
  • Deep understanding of electronics manufacturing, including surface mount technology (SMT), high-reliability soldering, and PCB assembly
  • Knowledgeable in manufacturing test software platforms (LabVIEW & TestStand)
  • Proficiency in designing, debugging, and maintaining complex test fixtures and systems
  • Hands-on experience with automated test equipment (ATE) and development environments such as LabVIEW, TestStand, or similar platforms
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across digital, analog, and mixed-signal electronics
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills, including the ability to interface with cross-functional teams and customers
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance (Active Clearance preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a defense or aerospace environment under standards like IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and AS9100
  • Familiarity with secure electronics manufacturing and handling of controlled/unclassified information
  • Prior experience with test strategy development for MIL-STD, space-qualified, or high-reliability electronics
  • Knowledge of environmental testing standards (vibration, thermal, humidity, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with ERP and MES systems in a manufacturing environment
