How much do aerospace test engineer jobs pay per hour?
What are the typical daily responsibilities of an aerospace test engineer?
On a typical day, an Aerospace Test Engineer designs and executes tests on aerospace components or systems, collects and analyzes performance data, and prepares detailed technical reports. They collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure products meet stringent safety and performance standards. Test Engineers may also troubleshoot unexpected results, refine test procedures, and participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss findings and recommend improvements. The role requires balancing hands-on work with documentation and communication to ensure successful project outcomes.
What is an aerospace test engineer?
An Aerospace Test Engineer is responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing tests on aircraft, spacecraft, and related components to ensure safety, performance, and compliance with industry standards. They develop test procedures, operate specialized testing equipment, and interpret data to identify potential issues. This role involves collaboration with design and manufacturing teams to improve product reliability and efficiency. Aerospace Test Engineers work in laboratories, wind tunnels, or flight test environments and may specialize in areas such as structural testing, propulsion systems, or avionics. Their work is crucial for verifying that aerospace systems meet rigorous regulatory and safety requirements before deployment.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an aerospace test engineer?
Aerospace Test Engineers require a strong background in aerospace engineering, physics, or related disciplines, with expertise in test planning, data analysis, and troubleshooting. Familiarity with industry-standard testing equipment, data acquisition systems, simulation software, and certifications such as AS9100 or Six Sigma are often expected. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills set outstanding candidates apart. These abilities ensure accurate and safe testing procedures, effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and reliable validation of aerospace components and systems.

OR
Professional Engineering Series (08XX) - Substitution of Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
