Job description

Job Title: Test Engineer

Job Description

The Test Engineer takes end-to-end ownership of how products are tested and brought into production. This hands-on role develops test strategies, designs and builds test systems and fixtures, and ensures new products are fully ready for a stable, high-yield production launch. The position plays a key part in designing and standing up production lines, aligning product design, test requirements, and manufacturing flow to deliver reliable, repeatable results on the production floor.

Responsibilities

  • Define test requirements based on product design, risk, and performance expectations.
  • Develop comprehensive test strategies at the module, drive, and system levels to ensure complete and efficient coverage.
  • Prepare new products for test readiness prior to production launch, including validation plans and acceptance criteria.
  • Design and build production test systems, stands, fixtures, and interfaces suitable for high-volume environments.
  • Develop reliable, repeatable test methods for production use and refine them for stability, repeatability, and throughput.
  • Support and enhance automated test platforms, including integration of software and hardware components.
  • Support the design and build of production lines for new products, ensuring test is integrated effectively at each stage.
  • Define build sequence, station layout, and test integration points to align test systems with manufacturing flow.
  • Help establish repeatable, efficient production processes that incorporate robust testing at appropriate checkpoints.
  • Drive First Pass Yield (FPY) to 97% or higher by optimizing test coverage and test system performance.
  • Lead root cause analysis for test failures, reduce repeat issues, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure test methods accurately validate true product performance and do not introduce false failures.
  • Ensure test operations do not constrain production flow and proactively remove test-related bottlenecks.
  • Improve test cycle time without sacrificing coverage or quality, balancing speed with reliability.
  • Support consistent execution of test processes across shifts and teams on the production floor.
  • Understand product and test requirements in depth and translate them into practical test solutions.
  • Define how products should be tested, including pass/fail criteria, and explain why failures occur.
  • Troubleshoot failed tests, analyze failure data, and determine root causes across electrical and system domains.
  • Integrate test stations into production lines and verify that interfaces, data flows, and safety requirements are met.
  • Analyze product designs, determine appropriate test strategies, and use failure data to drive design and process improvements.
  • Contribute to successful new product introductions by ensuring clear test strategies and repeatable validation processes.
  • Maintain test systems so they are stable, reliable, and easy for production personnel to operate.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in test engineering, controls, or electronics manufacturing.
  • Proven experience designing and building production test systems, stands, or fixtures, not only writing test plans.
  • Hands-on test engineering with strong comfort working on the production floor in a practical, build-and-troubleshoot environment.
  • Experience supporting or leading new product introduction (NPI) or product launch activities.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting capability, including diagnosing issues in electronics and related systems.
  • Ability to connect product design, test strategy, and manufacturing processes into a coherent production test approach.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, particularly in identifying root causes of test failures.
  • Experience with test systems and automated test concepts in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with electronics and test equipment used for validating electronic or electro-mechanical products.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • electronics, drives, or control systems.
  • Experience with automated test systems such as SPEA, LabVIEW, and PLC-based platforms.
  • Experience with LabVIEW for test automation or data acquisition.
  • Exposure to power electronics and their specific test and safety requirements.
  • Experience with PLCs for controlling test equipment or integrating test stations into production lines.
  • Experience with test systems and automated test architectures in high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze failure data to refine test strategies and improve product robustness.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with engineering, production, and project teams.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment focused on aggressive new product and technology development.

Work Environment

This is a highly hands-on, floor-oriented role with at least 60% of time spent on the production floor. The Test Engineer builds, operates, and refines test stands and fixtures directly in the manufacturing environment rather than focusing primarily on desk-based design work. The role involves frequent interaction with engineering and project teams to integrate test stations into high-volume production lines. The environment emphasizes new business and new product launches, with aggressive development of new technologies, test methods, and test stands. Work centers around real hardware, electronics, power electronics, automated test systems, and PLC-controlled equipment, requiring a practical, safety-conscious approach to working with production machinery and test equipment.
