What is a from home FBI software engineer?

A From Home FBI Software Engineer is a professional who develops, maintains, and secures software systems for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) while working remotely from their home. These engineers play a critical role in supporting the FBI’s cyber operations, data analysis, and digital security initiatives. They may work on projects related to cybersecurity, database management, or custom investigative tools. Despite working from home, they must adhere to strict security protocols and often require high-level security clearances due to the sensitive nature of their work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a from home FBI software engineer?

To excel as a Work-From-Home FBI Software Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, software development, and cybersecurity, typically supported by a relevant degree and security clearance. Familiarity with secure coding practices, programming languages (such as Python, Java, or C++), and tools like Git, as well as knowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks, is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and clear communication skills help you collaborate remotely and maintain data integrity. These skills are vital to ensuring secure, reliable software solutions that support national security and law enforcement operations.

How does working remotely as an FBI software engineer impact collaboration and communication with the rest of the team?

As a remote FBI Software Engineer, you'll primarily collaborate through secure digital channels, such as encrypted messaging, video conferencing, and specialized project management tools. While you may not be in the same physical location as your colleagues, frequent virtual meetings and regular check-ins ensure everyone remains aligned on project goals and security protocols. You may also be required to attend occasional in-person meetings or trainings at secure facilities, depending on the project's sensitivity. Strong communication skills and proactive engagement are essential to succeed in this role, as you'll need to coordinate closely with both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders.

From Home Cybersecurity Analysts primarily monitor and protect systems from cyber threats, with certifications like Security+ or CISSP. Both roles can be remote and serve security-focused organizations, but their core responsibilities and credentials differ.

Can a From Home FBI Software Engineer do work from home?

FBI software engineers working remotely typically perform their duties from home, especially for tasks involving coding, testing, and analysis, provided they have secure access to FBI systems and follow strict cybersecurity protocols. However, certain roles or tasks may require on-site presence for security or operational reasons. Remote work policies depend on agency guidelines and the specific position.

Does the FBI hire from home FBI software engineers?

FBI software engineers typically work on-site at FBI facilities, but some roles may offer telework options depending on the position and security requirements. Remote work is generally limited due to the sensitive nature of FBI operations and the need for secure environments. Job description

At i3 Product Development, we are a place for people who love to build, learn, and stay curious, especially when the problems are complex. As a Software Engineer, you will join a multidisciplinary team of designers, engineers, and problem-solvers working together under one roof to turn ideas into real, functioning products.

Our projects span the medical, agricultural, industrial, consumer, health and wellness, and recreation industries, so the technical challenges are always evolving. One project may involve developing a cloud-based application for a connected product; the next could focus on designing web services, integrating IoT devices, or solving a complex software architecture challenge. With more than 100 projects each year, the work is varied, fast-moving, and highly collaborative.

About the Role

This role is ideal for an experienced software engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, systems thinking, and working directly with clients and cross-functional teams.

You will contribute throughout the full product development lifecycle; from reviewing requirements and shaping product features to architecting, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting software solutions. You will work closely with designers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, firmware engineers, project managers, and clients to create stable, maintainable applications and connected-product experiences.

We support our team with strong benefits, including a zero-deductible health plan, meaningful retirement match, and employee ownership, so you can focus on doing great work and growing your career.

What You Will Do

  • Review product requirements, develop project estimates, and break complex work into manageable tasks
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain stable, scalable software solutions
  • Design and implement cloud-based web applications, web services, and IoT solutions
  • Collaborate with clients to define product features, clarify technical requirements, and architect effective solutions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software issues throughout development and after deployment
  • Participate in software architecture decisions and technical design discussions
  • Work within collaborative, Agile development teams
  • Contribute to code reviews, automated testing, continuous integration, and other software quality practices
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Continuously expand your skills through varied project work, emerging technologies, and shared learning

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Five or more years of professional experience designing, developing, testing, and debugging web-based software solutions
  • Strong software development fundamentals
  • Professional experience with Java, Python, or C#
  • Experience developing RESTful or SOAP web services
  • Experience deploying and managing web applications or services using AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Experience working on software projects using Agile development methodologies
  • Proficiency with source control and development tools such as Git, continuous integration platforms, and automated testing frameworks
  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and technical communication skills
  • Ability to organize work, manage changing priorities, and maintain attention to both system-level goals and important technical details

Nice to Have

  • Experience architecting software systems
  • Experience leading software development projects or technical teams
  • Experience developing software for connected products or IoT applications
  • Experience collaborating with firmware, electrical, mechanical, or industrial design teams
  • Experience working directly with clients to shape product requirements and technical solutions
  • Experience contributing to software development standards, processes, or engineering best practices

Why i3

At i3, Software Engineers do not work in isolation. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, interact directly with clients, and see your work move from early concept through launch.

We embrace new technologies and look for meaningful ways to apply them to real product challenges. We value curiosity, accountability, thoughtful communication, and people who care about both technical excellence and team success.

If you are energized by varied challenges, collaborative problem-solving, and the opportunity to create products that make a real impact, you will feel at home at i3.

Benefits and Perks

  • Health insurance with a zero-dollar deductible and employee premiums as low as nine dollars per pay period
  • Dental and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with dollar-for-dollar match up to six percent
  • Employee Stock Purchase Program
  • Company-paid short- and long-term disability insurance
  • Company-paid life insurance at two times annual salary
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Health Savings Account
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
