The Laboratory Data Quality Specialist serves as a vital link between laboratory operations, client services, and quality assurance functions. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate entry, verification, and quality review of laboratory orders and specimen information while supporting efficient laboratory workflows.
The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment. This position requires advanced knowledge of laboratory test ordering, specimen processing requirements, and data integrity standards. Additional responsibilities may include client communication, staff training, troubleshooting complex accounts, and supporting compliance initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain and update Patient Service Center (PSC) and Laboratory Information System (LIS) databases to support accurate specimen processing and reporting.
- Verify, validate, and review laboratory orders to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Understand and support all functions within the Data Entry and Quality Control department, providing coverage as needed.
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, and specimen-related issues; resolve when appropriate or escalate for further review.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between ordered tests and specimen requirements.
- Complete all required documentation accurately, legibly, and within established timeframes.
- Monitor quality control metrics and collaborate with leadership to maintain high standards of data accuracy and specimen processing.
- Communicate specimen collection, processing, and data-entry issues promptly to clients and laboratory personnel to minimize impact on patient results.
- Report quality concerns, inconsistencies, and operational issues to leadership in a timely manner.
- Meet established productivity and accuracy standards within the first three months of employment.
- Provide order validation support for team members and assist with ongoing staff training and development.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality outcomes.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Schedule and CompensationPosition Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Compensation: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour, depending on education, experience, and qualifications.
Physical Requirements- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and keyboard tasks throughout the workday.
- Frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending, and lifting as required.
Education and QualificationsPreferred Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience- Previous experience in a medical, laboratory, healthcare, or related environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory testing processes.
- Experience working in a production-based or high-volume processing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other computer-based systems.
