Job description

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery provides specialized nursing care to patients experiencing labor, preterm labor, and related obstetric conditions. This role involves managing labor rooms and triage, attending deliveries including high-risk cases, and supporting perioperative and postpartum care. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective patient care, utilizing advanced certifications and clinical skills in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide skilled nursing care in labor rooms, triage, post-op, pre-op, and scrub settings.
  • Attend all deliveries, including high-risk deliveries and GYN surgeries.
  • Manage patient care in low risk antepartum, labor and delivery, and transition nursery settings.
  • Administer blood and blood products, medications such as heparin, insulin, and magnesium sulfate.
  • Operate and monitor special equipment including epidural pumps, PCA pumps, syringe pumps, wound vac, cardioversion/defibrillation devices, and cooling/warming blankets.
  • Provide couplet care and coordinate with NICU as needed based on skill set.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing ratios, float to postpartum and NICU units as required.
  • Document patient care and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse license with at least 2 years of experience in labor and delivery nursing.
  • Epic electronic health record experience.
  • Certifications: BLS, FHM, NRP, AWHONN Intermediate required.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • ACLS certification preferred.
  • Experience with cardioversion/defibrillation and special obstetric procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple clinical environments including labor, triage, postpartum, and NICU.
Special Considerations:
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience; first-time travelers not accepted.
  • Active compact nursing license recognized by Swedish facilities.
  • Float assignments to postpartum and NICU units based on skill set.
  • Staffing ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient acuity.
Scheduling:
  • Work schedule includes shifts in labor rooms, triage, and related units; specific shifts assigned based on facility needs.
  • Float coverage required for postpartum and NICU units as needed.
