Job description

MPS Group, Inc. is seeking a Labor Relations Specialist to join our Human Resources team at our headquarters based in Farmington Hills, MI. This individual will be responsible for developing and managing programs that foster positive and effective relationships between the company and its union employees. The Labor Relations Specialist will serve as a key company representative in union negotiations, grievance procedures, and labor-management council meetings, ensuring compliance with all applicable labor laws and regulations.
Responsibilities and Job Duties:
  • Manage union grievances by receiving, reviewing, documenting, and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Maintain a central grievance database for multiple unions, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation.
  • Investigate and resolve employee grievances and complaints by analyzing evidence and applying labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and precedent.
  • Support the company's contract negotiation process by preparing communications, schedules, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with HR and in-house counsel to ensure proper application of employment contracts and policies.
  • Maintain and enforce contract agreements, ensuring compliance across multiple locations.
  • Facilitate labor-management council meetings and mediate disputes to foster productive dialogue.
  • Provide guidance to senior leadership, site managers, and union representatives on labor-related matters.
  • Ensure labor relations strategies align with company objectives and values.
  • Facilitate training programs on labor relations topics, including employee conduct and attendance policies.
  • Ensure company-wide understanding and compliance with labor laws, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Maintain a physical presence at work locations in MI, MO, KS, TN, OH, KY, and Ontario, Canada (50-75% travel).
  • Assist with consistent application of attendance programs and company policies across multiple regions.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three years of exempt-level experience in labor relations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of labor laws, collective bargaining, and grievance procedures.
  • Experience handling grievances, contract negotiations, and dispute resolution.
  • Proficiency with HRIS programs and systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and review complex documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, union representatives, and executives.
  • Conflict resolution skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to pass a drug test.

Preferred:
  • Experience with multi-state labor relations.
  • Experience with Canadian labor relations.
  • Project management experience.
  • Prior experience facilitating labor-management meetings.
