HVAC Test Engineer III - Plymouth, MN - Onsite

Daikin Applied is seeking a HVAC Test Engineer III to work in a large research and development laboratory evaluating performance of new HVAC products and technologies. Under intermittent supervision, you will work on a team that provide subject matter expertise to build and improve test facilities involving mechanical and electrical systems, data acquisition, control and automation. You will lead lab initiatives to prepare the equipment, people, and processes in support of the development of products and technologies across the portfolio of products.

What you will do:

  • Apply and further develop skills related to mechanical and electrical HVAC systems toward new product development engineering activities
  • Act as primary technical resource for troubleshooting issues with test cells, instrumentation, data acquisition software, and test units, particularly for difficult and in-depth issues
  • Create technical project plans for new or upgrades to existing capital test equipment, with limited supervision
  • Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to ensure testing expectations are clearly defined and communicated, providing technical insights and recommendations
  • Champion data collection process, from acquiring signals to data verification and reporting.
  • Provide comprehensive technical oversight as required for general testing activities to ensure the highest level of quality and integrity of result
  • Implement laboratory process improvements related to productivity, metrics, and continuous improvement
  • Review, comprehend, and interpret external testing standards and how they apply to internal testing procedures
  • Develop new testing methodologies for incorporation into existing testing methods and procedures, particularly for in-depth and novel testing needs
  • Lead and coordinate activities with product engineers and a team of technicians, providing technical guidance
  • Lead and interpret engineering drawings and specifications with limited supervision.
  • Analyze and interpret data from test results. Coaches and reviews the work of lower-level specialists
  • Actively and continuously develops existing technical expertise and expands into other areas as needs of the organization dictate

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of demonstrated success and progressive responsibility in an engineering role
  • Knowledge and proficiency in testing methods for components, systems, and complete machines
  • Knowledge and proficiency in statistical methods related to test and product development disciplines
  • Ability to plan and prioritize multiple activities in a resource constrained environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including demonstrated success in mentoring technical colleagues
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously
  • Possess exceptional organization and communication skills including ability to prepare clear and concise technical and status reports

  • Knowledge and proficiency the specification and setup of complex, automated test setups

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or related field
  • Test engineering experience
  • LabVIEW certification and EPA refrigerant certification
  • Thorough understanding of HVAC equipment and components
  • Proficient with fundamentals of instrumentation, including RTDs, thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, electrical and power measurements, and analog/digital data acquisition.
  • Formal coursework in the areas of measurement systems, heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design, and strength of materials
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to multitask & reprioritize tasks frequently
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and communicate with vendors to perform work and services relating to mechanical/electrical facility systems
  • Must be able to work cooperatively and effectively with laboratory, design, and product marketing teams
  • Experience with PLC and PID controllers
  • Experience working in R&D center/lab setting

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from$90,400- $147,400plus a 10% bonus in Minnesota.
