Description
Principal Function: The Wastewater Collection Systems Technician is responsible for maintenance of Wastewater Treatment Plant and Sewer Collection System.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensures operations of wastewater system complies with applicable standards, state and federal regulations, and Town ordinances.
  • Performs maintenance of catch basins, manholes, combination and sanitary lines, storm collection, and equipment.
  • Operates specialized equipment such as sewer televising system and jet/vac truck.
  • Completes pretreatment activities including, but not limited to, investigating, sampling, analyzing, and auditing.
  • Responds to concerns, problems, and/or complaints in a timely manner, maintaining a customer service philosophy.
  • Assists with operation of municipal lift stations.
  • Assists with biosolid disposal such as loading trucks and hauling off-site.
  • Assists with updating sanitary and storm maps.
  • Assists with final inspections of sanitary sewer and storm sewer utilities.
  • May perform cross-functions with Water Department and applicable lab testing.

Supervisory Participation & Control: This job has no employee supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty according to the requirements of the Town of Brownsburg. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or G.E.D., and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Minimum Collection System Operator Class I certification required. Valid Class B CDL is required. Previous experience working in municipal government is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local wastewater regulations.
  • Must have knowledge in Stormwater Management (Municipal Separate Storm Sewer General Permit - MS4GP) rules and regulations.
  • Must have basic math and chemistry principles.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Experience managing projects, as well as maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment, collection systems, and basic electrical knowledge.
  • Exhibit professionalism and be effective in working with the public, vendors, and employees.
  • Skillfully convey information on a wide range of topics to a diverse target audience.
  • Proficient with commonly used office software, including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, as well as telephone and internet communications.
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships through strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on relationship building and consistent demonstration of solid professional judgement.
  • A genuine commitment to quality on behalf of the Town while building a culture committed to excellence is mandatory.
  • Must have and maintain a verifiable Driver's License, demonstrated safe driving record, and remain insurable through the Town's liability insurance carrier if applicable.

This job operates primarily in an outdoor environment with moderate to high safety/health hazard potential. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
While the role follows a work schedule of 6:30AM to 3:30PM, Monday through Friday, this job may require work beyond these hours, which may include weekends, holidays, and on-call status. Frequent in-town travel will be required.
