Performs a range of tasks involved in installing, configuring, documenting, and maintaining laboratory equipment, test equipment software upgrades, network infrastructure, and lab setup. These tasks encompass activities such as conducting audits, tracking capital and expensed equipment in the labs, managing inventories, and updating written procedures. Takes responsibility for the strategic planning and efficient allocation of company resources to successfully execute infrastructure projects or specific project components, starting from the planning phase and continuing through the design and implementation phase. Identifies and communicates the scope of projects, ensuring the achievement of program milestones and objectives. Facilitates effective communication between technical and non-technical teams, coordinates project schedules, monitors budgets, and delegates tasks. Regularly keeps management informed about significant issues and any changes that might impact daily operations and project outcomes.

How you will make an impact:

  • Work closely with the various Lab Support Teams to coordinate, plan and execute operational activities in the lab, ensuring adherence to lab processes, EHS guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage lab and infrastructure equipment PM's including procurement of materials and resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of lab activities ensuring compliance with documentation standards.
  • Work closely with Lab Management on planning, designing and implementing Lab Projects.
  • Collaborate closely with Facilities Management team to coordinate, plan, and execute building activities, ensuring adherence to building processes and safety standards.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between Lab Operations and Facilities Management team to optimize the overall functionality and efficiency of the facility.
  • Collaborate with Facilities Management team to plan, design and implement building infrastructure projects, renovations and improvements.
  • Act as a Team Lead providing guidance and training to team members and lab support staff.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet project requirements and schedules while balancing workload and priorities.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, teamwork and knowledge sharing among lab support team and lab users.
  • Help in identifying staff needs, participate in the recruitment process, and contributes to the professional development of team members.
  • Enforce and promote strict adherence to safety protocols, best practices and regulatory guidelines within the labs.
  • Attend monthly safety inspections and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies and relevant regulations, ensuring lab compliance.
  • Collaborate with with internal teams, such as Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), to implement and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of lab equipment and instrumentation, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Manage vendor relationships and service contracts, coordinating equipment installations and upgrades.
  • Plan and execute lab space utilization, including layout optimization and equipment placement.

Pay Range:

The salary range for this role is: $79, 800 - $127, 600

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
