Paracel Laboratories Ltd. is one of the oldest privately owned environmental and Indoor Air Quality laboratory in Canada. Our main laboratory facilities are located in Ottawa and are supported by an environmental lab in Hamilton and microbiology/asbestos laboratories in Mississauga. Additional service depots are located in Kingston, London, Niagara, Windsor, and Richmond Hill. We support a broad spectrum of projects for professional clients from across Canada and around the world. Our client base primarily consists of major environmental consultants, all levels of government and industrial manufacturers located predominantly in Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara, Eastern and Southwestern Ontario.
The Opportunity:
Paracel Laboratories is actively searching for an Intermediate Lab Analyst in our Organics Department in Ottawa. This opportunity will be a hands-on role working together with the organics team to ensure production deadlines are met and quality targets are achieved. This position requires extensive knowledge and experience with GC and GC-MS chromatographic systems, including general maintenance and trouble shooting. Understanding of typical environmental testing procedures and current environmental regulations is required. The Intermediate Analyst also addresses any complex technical issues, ensures QA/QC compliance is maintained, investigates non-conformances, and may assists in research projects under the supervision of the Laboratory Director or the Laboratory Manager.
Compensation:
This position offers a salary range of $50,000-60,000 annually to commensurate with experience. The compensation package includes full Health/Dental benefits, and includes an Employee Family assistance program, a Group RRSP plan, and a Profit-Sharing program.

This role is an on-site opportunity at 2319 St. Laurent Blvd, Ottawa, Ontario.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible, in conjunction with the Laboratory Manager, for meeting analysis turnaround times and ensuring that analytical holding times are met.
  • Provide direct support to our organics group
  • Oversees and assists with training and development of Junior and Intermediate Analysts within the organics department.
  • Responsible for monitoring the workload status within their designated section of the organics department.
  • Investigates non-conformances and resolves technical issues in their department with the assistance of the Lab Director/Lab Manager.
  • Ensures that all company authorized policies and procedures are followed within the group.
  • Coordinates supplies acquisition with the Lab Manager.
  • Complies with company QA/QC and Health & Safety policies and procedures and addresses any issues pertaining to the department.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • B.Sc. or higher in Chemistry (or related field), with a minimum of 2years related work experience.
  • Experience within the environmental testing sector is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 laboratory environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of current Ontario environmental regulations, including Brownfield and Excess Soil, Water Quality, and Drinking Water.
  • Demonstrated skills in Purge and Trap, GC-MS\GC-FID instrument operation and troubleshooting along with method development skills.
  • Proven computer skills including MS office (Word and Excel) and LIMS
  • Superior mathematical ability and advanced problem solving/analytical skills.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and balancing workload to meet tight deadlines.
  • Superb attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Highly reliable and deadline-driven.
