Job description

POSITION: Materials Lab Technician

LOCATION: Jupiter, FL.

STATUS: Hourly Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

Maintain metallurgy laboratory, conduct metallurgical testing, and provide materials technical support for all departments as required. Perform routine metallographic preparation and microstructure analysis of stainless steels, and Nickel alloys.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Preparation of metallographic specimens in support of production, manufacturing, and field components.
  • Operate basic Lab equipment: Polishing machines, hardness testers, cutoff wheels, mounting press etc. review samples via light microscope.
  • Evaluate samples and generate reports based on acceptance criteria from provided specifications.
  • Performs housekeeping activities as necessary.
  • Maintains awareness of safe working conditions and practice safe work habits in all activities maintaining environmental health and safety standards
  • Performs chemical etching of metallurgical specimens, maintain inventory of chemicals, and Hazardous waste disposal and procedures.
  • Performs general maintenance on lab equipment.
  • Work across departments, businesses, internally, and with customers and suppliers
  • Supports Manufacturing Engineering, Developmental Engineering
  • Other duties, as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education & Training

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSM’s EHS Training Matrix

Skills/Experience

  • This position requires the ability to use various lab test equipment and follow procedures. Previous laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with co-workers, desire, and ability to work as a team member is essential.
  • Mechanical aptitude or industry experience are preferred.
  • Coachable and focused on personal development.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
