This is a casual position with hours scheduled as needed and not guaranteed
Summary
Clinical Assistants (CA) are multi skilled to provide support for clinic operations within the scope of practice under the direct supervision of the clinic Manager. CA's have knowledge of and utilize appropriate age-related protocols relating to the physical and psychological needs of clients from infant/child through geriatrics.
Must be self-motivated, independent and able to work well with team members. Must have knowledge of medical terminology and medical equipment/supplies, medication dosing, storage, and administration. Must be able to work amidst multiple distractions while maintaining excellent interpersonal skills.
Job Duties for Clinical Assistant
  • Rooming of clients which includes but is not limited to: height, weight, blood pressure, visual acuity, color vision screening, and performs and fully completes all documentation in the medical records for nurse visits, patient encounters and medication refills.
  • Administration and documentation of oral and injectable medications and vaccinations.
  • Accurate preparation and routing of electronic and faxed medication refill requests.
  • Reception/Clerical task which include but is not limited to: Scheduling appointments, verification of insurance, checking in for appointments, coordinating patient referrals, coordinate insurance medication prior authorizations, ordering of supplies and equipment and restocking of supplies and accurate documentation of phone calls and patient care.
  • Proper storage, handling and administration of vaccines. Be able to determine vaccines appropriate for patient based on past vaccine records, age and the CDC and MDH vaccine schedules.
  • Perform and document Phlebotomy, EKGs and waived lab testing.
  • Assist the Physician/PA/CNP with continuance of patient care by coordinating diagnostic testing and referrals to inside and outside providers.
  • Data Collection for Quality initiatives.
  • Serve on various committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Willing to train and provided a productive learning environment for students, externs and new staff.

Required Education and Experience
  • BLS Certification
  • Certification or registration from an accrediting body such as the AAMA or the ARMA (must successfully pass Certified Medical Assistant exam within six months of hire) or possess a Minnesota practical nursing license through the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, policies, procedures and medical ethics equivalent to years of experience.
  • Excellent communication skills across disciplines and at various levels.
  • Possession of attention to detail, organization and prioritization skills.
  • Basic Computer skills and comprehension including Word.
