We are seeking a nursing instructor to teach in our LVN program, no prior teaching experience required! Must be available to work part-time evening shifts and Saturday clinicals. Evening schedule is Tuesday and Thursdays from 5:30pm-11pm and Saturday schedule is 7a-7p.
Job Description
Supports the mission and philosophy of Unitek College Department of Nursing, related to the purpose and function of the simulation and skills labs as a learning environment. Supports all clinical simulated patient care learning experiences and skills acquired in the skills lab for the Nursing Programs. Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of procedures and guidelines of the Simulation and Skills Labs. Participates in a collaborative role with simulation partners within the educational arena, resulting in maintaining simulation and skills standards and practices current in Unitek Simulation and Skills Labs.
  • Responsible for overseeing the general operation of the Nursing Simulation Center and Skills Labs.
  • Monitors and audits clinical supplies based on simulation and nursing lab needs.
  • Identifies, organizes, and purchases supplies required for each nursing skill and simulation clinical experience.
  • Oversees storage and use of equipment in simulations and skills labs.
  • Participates in faculty and student orientation to the nursing simulation laboratory teaching and learning method.
  • Acts as a faculty resource and assists with clinical skills practice and pass-off sessions in the nursing skills and simulation labs.
  • Keeps up with current nursing practice and evidence-based researching in patient simulation and clinical skills education.
  • Enhances clinical nursing education by coordinating patient simulation and skills lab experience to support the didactic course content and level of the student.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of the simulation center and skills lab operations and makes recommendations to the Asst. Dean of Nursing for improvement
  • Maintains safety standards regarding the use of equipment and hazardous waste disposal in simulation center and skills labs.
  • Assists in developing the nursing simulation center and skills lab budget; makes recommendations for equipment purchases to maintain standards essential for effective student instruction.
  • Oversees the development of policies and procedures for simulation center and skills lab activities that provide for effective learning experiences and safe practice.
  • In conjunction with Simulation and Lab personnel, prepares and maintains simulation and skills lab equipment, media, computers, and materials related to simulation and skills labs.
  • Collaborates with faculty, simulation center and skills lab staff in designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating simulation education, lab activities, and curriculum material to support student achievement of nursing program outcomes.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates simulation activities in accordance with program and accreditation policies, course objectives, and program outcomes.
  • Directs and maintains inventory of supplies to support all instruction in the simulation center and skills labs and provides direction for all inventory of supplies.
  • Promotes an optimal learning environment in all simulation and lab areas for all participants and facilitators.
  • Runs simulation events, as needed, and provides support to students, faculty, and simulation educators using simulation.
  • Meet with Assistant Dean to discuss simulation and lab staff needs.
  • Communicate needs and work with Asst. Dean to post open positions.
  • Involved in the interview process; help determine what candidates will be hired.
  • Conducts evaluations of simulation and lab staff at the end of each semester.
  • Provides direction for all support staff.
  • Maintains all standards required to meet regulation and accreditation.
  • Serves as a member of the curriculum committee and the Nursing Simulation Committee
  • Available to teach up to 50% of time

Qualifications
  • Must hold a current BSN license in the state where the campus is located.
  • A Master's degree from accredited college or University that includes course work in nursing, education, or administration.
  • Previous simulation center experience is required.
  • Certification in simulation education (CHSE) or obtain CHSE certification within one (1) year.
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs
  • At least two years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care and/or equivalent experience as determined by the Board.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communications.
