About the Technical Data Analyst position:

The Technical Data Analyst is a key member of the Health Analytics team, reporting to the Manager of Health Analytics. This role is responsible for managing multiple core data functions in support of the Medical Economics, Financial Planning and Analysis, and Actuarial departments. The Technical Data Analyst provides technical expertise in the development and maintenance of key models, including underwriting and forecasting, preparing reports, supporting special projects, and delivering ad-hoc analyses. This position provides clear and accurate insights that inform business strategy and decision-making.

This position is eligible for remote work, but quarterly travel will be required to Avalon's corporate office located in Tampa, Florida.

Technical Data Analyst – Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Creates and maintains SQL scripts and stored procedures to support underwriting, pricing, and ad-hoc analyses.
  • Analyzes structured and unstructured data models to provide actionable insights.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains automated and scheduled data processes and workflows.
  • Conducts data reconciliation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity across systems.
  • Builds, maintains, and enhances Tableau dashboards and models to support business reporting and decision-making.
  • Analyzes client performance metrics and provides recommendations to drive business outcomes.
  • Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes to support analytical and operational needs.

Technical Data Analyst – Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or related discipline
  • Skilled in writing SQL queries and interpreting results to drive data-informed decisions.
  • Experienced across the full data analysis lifecycle, including extraction, pre-processing, cleaning, mining, and visualization to deliver actionable insights.
  • Solid understanding of ETL concepts with hands-on experience in implementing ETL workflows.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and visualization.
  • Excellent logical reasoning and organizational skills
  • Strong ability to capture, organize, and document complex and detailed information.
  • Comfortable managing multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proactive, self-driven learner who seeks clarity and asks insightful questions to deepen understanding.
  • Adept at identifying patterns and extracting actionable insights from complex, multi-dimensional data.
  • Strong communicator and collaborative team player, able to engage effectively within small teams and across departments.
  • Excels at connecting diverse concepts and rapidly synthesizing complex information to support effective decision-making.
  • Fast learner with the ability to adapt quickly to new tools, technologies, and evolving workflows.

Technical Data Analyst – Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with marketing automation platforms (ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, etc.)
  • Proficiency in creating and managing automated jobs and scripts.
  • Experienced with Business Intelligence tools, including Tableau, Power BI (Office 365), and MSBI (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS).
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake and ETL processes.
  • Familiar with source control systems, such as GitHub, for version management and collaboration.
  • Skilled in Python programming for data analysis and automation.
  • Knowledge of AI tools (e.g., Cortex) and natural language querying for data insights.
