Position Summary
Prepare and administer laboratory assignments, which provide practical experiences for students.
Salary: Appropriate placement on E2, Grade 03: $47,029 - $65,218
(Salary within this range is determined by your documented years of full-time related work experience)
Work Hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m.; Friday 7:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Prepare and assist with laboratory exercises for automotive technology courses under the direction of program instructors.
  2. Assist students with hands-on laboratory assignments, vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and automotive projects.
  3. Provide guidance and technical assistance to students during laboratory activities while reinforcing proper safety procedures.
  4. Assist instructors with administering, grading, and recording written, laboratory, and practical examinations, including make-up exams.
  5. Demonstrate proper operation of automotive tools, equipment, diagnostic instruments, and testing procedures.
  6. Maintain accurate student laboratory records and performance documentation.
  7. Supervise students in the automotive laboratory to ensure safe work practices and proper use of equipment.
  8. Prepare vehicles, trainers, engines, transmissions, electrical trainers, and laboratory equipment for classroom instruction and laboratory exercises.
  9. Maintain, troubleshoot, and organize laboratory equipment, diagnostic tools, and instructional trainers.
  10. Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on laboratory equipment and instructional vehicles as needed.
  11. Assist with the maintenance, calibration, and updating of automotive diagnostic equipment, scan tools, oscilloscopes, ADAS equipment, EV trainers, and other instructional technologies.
  12. Prepare laboratory materials, instructional aids, and shop supplies for classroom and laboratory use.
  13. Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, parts, consumable supplies, and instructional materials.
  14. Receive, inspect, inventory, and organize shipments of tools, equipment, parts, and supplies.
  15. Assist with maintaining an organized, clean, and safe automotive laboratory that complies with OSHA, EPA, and institutional safety standards.
  16. Assist with SkillsUSA competitions, automotive events, recruiting activities, advisory committee meetings, and outreach programs.
  17. Assist with vehicle scheduling, customer vehicle intake (if applicable), and coordination of laboratory projects.
  18. Assist faculty in developing, revising, and updating laboratory exercises, instructional materials, and competency-based assessments.
  19. Support computer-based automotive diagnostic software, service information systems, and learning management technologies used in the automotive program.
  20. Maintain professionalism while interacting with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and the public.
  21. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
A minimum of an Associate of Applied Science degree in field or a related field from an accredited institution is required OR a minimum high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years work experience in the Automotive, Diesel or Aviation field is required.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:
  1. Knowledge of automotive repair procedures, automotive systems, and diagnostic equipment used in a modern automotive technology program.
  2. Experience using automotive hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
  3. Knowledge of automotive electrical and electronic systems, engine performance, brake systems, steering and suspension, HVAC, driveline, and transmission systems.
  4. Experience using OEM and aftermarket diagnostic equipment, scan tools, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, battery analyzers, and service information systems.
  5. Knowledge of current automotive technologies, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) systems, and vehicle network communications.
  6. Documented proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to use automotive software, learning management systems, and electronic service information.
  7. Demonstrated ability to remain current with advancements in automotive technology and incorporate new equipment and instructional methods into the laboratory environment.
  8. Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, and organizing automotive laboratory equipment and instructional vehicles.
  9. Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and shop safety regulations applicable to automotive laboratories.
  10. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  11. Ability and willingness to work directly with students in a hands-on laboratory environment while promoting safe work practices.
  12. ASE certifications or other recognized automotive industry certifications are preferred.
  13. Sensitivity and commitment to serving a diverse student population.
  14. Willingness to collaborate with faculty, staff, and other occupational programs to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  15. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
