Travel: This position travels up to 50% of the time to our other locations in Dover, Newark, and Wilmington. When asked to travel to a location other than your home base, you will be reimbursed for travel time plus mileage reimbursement, per policy. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and car insurance.

JOB SUMMARY: The HCA is administratively supervised by the Center Manager and clinically supervised by the Clinician(s), and is responsible for providing high quality medical support and clinical care with a focus on outstanding client satisfaction while maintaining/exceeding productivity standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: All duties and responsibilities are performed in a professional and customer service oriented manner in compliance with PPDE's Manual of Medical Standards and Guidelines, PPDE policies and procedures, and State and Federal regulatory requirements. Participate in training sessions, including computer-assisted learning, as required.

  • Welcome and assist clients through the visit process.
  • Complete patient intake assessment interview, provide client-focused education/information, distribute and review of fact sheets, and informed consent process with accurate medical record documentation.
  • Assist clinician and client with examination process, follow-up care and referrals.
  • Perform duties of Procedure Room Assistant, conduct laboratory testing, scrub and sterilize instruments.
  • Assist in the abortion services as needed.
  • Maintain and provide for the upkeep and care of exam room, clinical work areas equipment, supplies and log entries.
  • Perform all front office duties: Receive incoming calls, direct to appropriate staff or message system.
  • Use practice management system, enter client information, service data and charges.
  • Perform charge out duties as appropriate.
  • Accurately record all lab tests and test results in appropriate lab logs and medical record as appropriate.
  • Provide injections as necessary.
  • Conduct all lab tests for patients including, but not limited to: Pregnancy, STI, and HIV.
  • Abide by the mission of PPDE.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • Medical Assistant graduate or AMA Certified Medical Assistant, or Bachelor's Degree in Social Service, Human Service or Science preferred, or equivalent experience required.
  • Phlebotomy Certification Preferred.
  • Bilingual Preferred.
  • Minimum one year experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with women's reproductive healthcare preferred.

Reasoning Ability: Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusion. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in various formats required. Ability to multi-task and to work effectively under pressure due to conflicting demands is required. Must be flexible, highly organized, creative and detail-oriented with the ability to set and meet deadlines.

Language Skills: Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, listening and interpersonal relationship communication skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and interact comfortably with a diverse group of clients, staff and volunteers in a non-judgmental, professional and sensitive manner Mathematical Skills Must possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Computer Skills: Excellent keyboarding skills with high level of accuracy required. Must possess capacity to learn software programs required for specific position and access electronic communications, including e-mail, extranet, intranet, and computer-assisted learning.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. All of the job functions listed within this job description involve to greater and lesser degrees the following physical demands: close vision; hearing/listening; clear speech; walking; lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds overhead and 40 pounds from the floor; stooping; kneeling; bending; sitting; standing up to 8 hours at a time; and use of hands to finger, handle, feel and use keyboard.
