Additional Position Details: FTE: 0.5 | Part Time | Variable Hours/Variable Days | Will accept Lab Aide or Lab Assistant levels
Please note: Due to the nature of the work - this position does require the flexibility to work variable hours and variable days - to include day, evening, weekend and holidays hours.
Salary for Lab Aide Range: $18.09 - $24.88
Shift Differentials:
  • $1.16 extra for working between 3:00pm - 11:00pm
  • $2.00 extra for working between 11:01pm and 7:00am
  • $0.99 extra for working weekends

Salary for Lab Assistant/Specimen Processor Range: $19.27 - $26.50
Shift Differentials:
  • $1.27 extra for working between 3:00pm - 11:00pm
  • $2.15 extra for working between 11:01pm and 7:00am
  • $1.10 extra for working weekends

Position Summary for Lab Aide
Under general supervision and guidance from laboratory staff and/or supervisor, the Lab Aide, participates in laboratory duties as appropriate based on competency and department. They may also support the needs of the lab by performing other tasks such as stocking of lab materials and assisting in maintaining cleanliness of the lab. Their duties may be performed in several departments of the laboratory including Specimen Processing, Phlebotomy, Lab Service Representatives at any Asante location; ARRMC, ATRMC, Cancer Treatment Center, and Coumadin Clinic, as directed by the department supervisor.
Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required
  • Successful completion of laboratory processor competencies or a bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences within 1 year of hire is required

Please Note: As an entry level position intended to bridge to advanced level roles in the Laboratory, must demonstrate successful completion of laboratory processor competencies or bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences within 1 year of hire. Ability to promote to advanced level roles within the Laboratory within 1 year of hire is required.
Experience
  • Prior health care experience is preferred
  • Medical terminology, clerical skills and computer expertise is preferred

  • This position requires the ability to stand/walk or lift/handle/carry between 20 and 50 pounds as a regular part of your work duties.

Position Summary for Lab Assistant/Specimen Processor
The Lab Assistant/Specimen Processor contributes to the overall patient experience by using organizational and communication skills to receive and process laboratory specimens as specified by regulatory requirements and laboratory standard operating procedures. This is done through assessing requisition dates, specimen adequacy and acceptability to ensure accurate order entry and high-quality laboratory results.
Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate as needed for the position is required
  • Prior education or demonstrated knowledge in medical terminology

Experience
  • 1 year of laboratory experience or a combination of education and or related experience in a healthcare setting providing knowledge of medical terminology is required
  • Specimen processing experience including esoteric reference lab specimen handling and packaging, preferred
  • Phlebotomy experience and/or knowledge of laboratory tests and /or laboratory ordering processes, preferred
  • College courses/credits toward advanced degree, especially science course work, preferred
  • Data entry, keyboarding experience and computer proficiency, preferred

Licensure/Certifications
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant through the Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), preferred
