This position is responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support. The LST I will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service with all internal and external customer interactions. The LST I is responsible as required for the skillful acquisition of laboratory specimens for testing, utilizing safe, accurate, effective, professional methodologies while observing HIPAA confidentiality requirements and lab policies. The LST I will be responsible for all processing, transport and referral of all types of laboratory specimens and reports as required. In order for the co-worker to achieve the competencies of the LST I position they must be observed by laboratory management or designee and complete all departmental checklists for the LST I position. As an essential member of the provider care team, you'll help deliver timely and accurate laboratory services while upholding Mercy's mission, values, and Signature Service Standards.

What You'll Do

  • Collect laboratory specimens safely, accurately, and professionally through skilled phlebotomy practices

  • Process, transport, and refer laboratory specimens according to established procedures

  • Support laboratory operations through data entry, reporting, scheduling, and administrative functions

  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and laboratory policies

  • Ensure accurate and timely handling of laboratory reports and information

  • Deliver outstanding customer service to patients, providers, and coworkers

  • Complete competency and departmental training requirements under laboratory leadership guidance

  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, quality, and patient-centered care

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • BLS certification within six months of hire

  • Successful completion of probationary period

  • No active disciplinary actions or performance improvement plans

  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • College coursework in Chemistry, Biology, or other science-related fields

  • Previous clinical laboratory experience

  • Experience with specimen collection and laboratory processes
