Job description

North Central Surgical Center is a highly successful, Baylor Scott & White affiliated hospital located in Dallas, TX.  We partner with the very best team members and medical staff in the area.  We are a surgical focused hospital that performs over 12,000 procedures per year. 

FACTS ABOUT NORTH CENTRAL: Opened in 2005, 14 Operating Rooms and 30 Medical/Surgical Patient Rooms.  We are conveniently located at Walnut Hill & 75 in the prestigious North Park area. Specialties include: Orthopedics, Spine, General Surgery, Pain Management, Urology, GI/Endoscopy, Plastic, and Podiatry surgeries. Managed by United Surgical Partners International & Joint Commission Accredited.

Under the direction of the Clinical Manager, the Clinical Supervisor is responsible for supporting all departmental functions to achieve the hospital’s mission, vision, and facility goals. This role ensures effective operational management by developing cost-effective systems, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and fostering strong relationships with patients, physicians, employees, and vendors. The Clinical Supervisor acts as a resource for staff, provides leadership for clinical operations, and ensures quality patient care delivery by assisting with staffing, training, and scheduling while taking patient assignments as needed. The Clinical Supervisor upholds standards of practice, ensuring team accountability, and compliance with the state board of nursing, American Nurses Association (ANA) standards, Joint Commission, and federal and state guidelines.

  • Supervises: Charge RNs, Staff RNs, Medical Assistants (MAs), Hospital Unit Coordinators, and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Provides leadership, guidance, and evaluation of staff performance, including participation in employee evaluations and ongoing coaching.
    • Participates in employee development, including identifying educational needs and providing support for professional growth.
    • Ensures adherence to regulatory standards (TDSHS, CMS, Joint Commission, ASPAN, TXBON) and organizational policies.
    • Promotes a positive work environment, motivating staff and leading by example to maintain high morale and effective teamwork.
    • Addresses and resolves conflicts and issues, ensuring that patient care and service standards are met.
    • Collaborates with other departments, such as PAT, Anesthesia and PSU, to coordinate care and ensure seamless perioperative processes.
  • Patient Care:
    • Act as Charge RN, taking patient assignments when necessary to support census fluctuations and staff needs during daily operations.
    • Act as a resource for critical patient care aspects, including blood product administration, telemetry systems, critical lab values, RRT/Code Blue, medication safety, patient transfers during daily operations.
  • Operational Leadership:
    • Assist with development of staffing schedules, oversee Kronos/Shift Wizard, and ensure appropriate shift assignments to meet operational demands.
    • Facilitate monthly staff meetings and communication between departments.
    • Facilitate daily operations, including Cerner system support, inventory checks (crash cart, Broselow bag, airways), supplies ordered and stocked.
  • Mentorship and Training:
    • Promote patient safety and quality of care by ensuring 100% compliance with hospital orientation, department-specific training, and ongoing annual updates for staff.
    • Act as a mentor during the orientation of new staff and assist with ongoing training initiatives.
    • Conduct educational sessions for staff development and ensure compliance with facility policies.
    • Ensure timely completion of monthly staff meetings and compliance with mandatory hospital orientation and department-specific training for new hires and existing staff.
    • Support Unit-Based and Central Practice Councils, encouraging staff participation and attendance.
  • Incident and Risk Management:
    • Ensure the completion and follow-up of incident reports, including On-the-Job Injuries.
    • Escalate issues related to risk, safety, staffing, or patient/physician complaints to senior leadership or the Administrator on Call.
    • Collaborate with Quality and Risk Management teams to investigate and address incidents using tools such as MIDAS data entry.
    • Act as a resource for staff, physicians, and patients to resolve operational issues and respond to customer concerns in a timely manner (within 72 hours).
  • Leadership Engagement:
    • Participate actively in leadership activities and initiatives to achieve organizational goals.
    • Support senior leadership in organizational initiatives and departmental needs.
    • Lead by example in adhering to the hospital’s Corporate Code of Conduct and policies and ensuring staff compliance with organizational ethics and standards.
    • Assist with the development, implementation, and revision of policies and procedures to ensure optimal patient care and department integration.
    • Assist with admissions, discharges, and patient assessments as needed.
    • Maintain awareness and support of quality metrics and regulatory compliance standards.
    • Provide service recovery to maintain a customer-focused environment.

Required Skills
  • Education
    • Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing required.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification
    • Current Texas RN License.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited by American Heart Association (AHA).
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications accredited by AHA (must be obtained within 60 days of hire).
  • Specific Job Experience
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in PreOp/PACU or Critical Care nursing required, with demonstrated leadership skills.
    • Experience in perioperative services strongly preferred.
